What stands out to me is how did the Lakers fleece the rest of the league and their own guy and sign Austin Reeves 4/56?

are the lakers.

their competitive advantage is out of scale

Exactly.

That deal doesn't kick in until next season and is about 27.2M per year. If the cap rises 10% in each year of the deal...

Year 1: 27M on 149.6 = 18% of cap
Year 2: 27M on 164.6 = 16.4% of cap
Year 3: 27M on 181.1 = 15% of cap
Year 4: 27M on 199.2 = 13.5% of cap
Year 5: 27M on 219.2 = 12.3% of cap

It *seems* like a lot because we're used to it being a lot, but if the cap does keep steadily rising like everyone is projecting, it's really not that much.

Wait so you are saying nobody knows if it will? If nobody knows it will, can it decrease?

Correction but not a big one.

We will go as far as Franz, Paolo, Suggs take us this year.

Suggs in the SL is the outlier of outliers. When you think about it, he is the player that has the potential to get our current back-court out of 20-30th "best"

https://youtu.be/lDS3HsKpxek?si=FLAjtf9hw0QeV-hC

Otherwise again, nobody is wrong.

We can list every player in the rotation becouse every player contributes. If we want to be correct we should mention Franz first and WCJ second becouse he was our second best player last year.
Paolo is mostly potential and propably year away from real impact. Suggs is impactful but only on one side of the floor.
Lets be honest, our real difference maker is Franz. We could replace Banchero with Isaac or Suggs with Harris and it would be similar or better product this season. You replace Franz and we are back at the bottom.
I disagree on Paolo. I think he was our best and most impactful player last season, and will be again. This stance admittedly has to ignore plus minus and lineup analysis, and rely heavily on counting stats and the eye test, but I'm 100% comfortable taking it. Highest usage with a massive free throw rate are two advanced metrics to focus on, if we need advanced stats for this argument. He was our 1st option and he transformed our ability to win at the line. His impact was transformative. We did not make the jump we did because of Franz, we made it because of Paolo. I don't think it's overly critical that we allocate credit perfectly between the two, but if we mistakenly deprioritize Paolo and for whatever reason lose out on him we might as well go back to tanking.

Gonna have to agree.

To say Paulo didn't have a real impact is to say his 20ppg was just "empty stats".

We compared numbers into the ground that when Paulo or Franz didn't show, and Fultz had to step up we typically lost that game.

In other words. Paulo had a team effect. As he went, so likely did we. Entire defenses were schemed on whether or not he was putting the ball in the hole.

Edit : this is to absolutely no discredit to Franz. The formula last year was simple. P + F + anything that resembles an NBA point guard = W .500 ball. Take away the formula and say make it Isaac + F + anything that resembles an nba point guard, and I think we are lock lottery pick team again.

Barring something unforeseen like another global pandemic, the NBA salary cap is going to rise significantly upon completion of their next television contract.

And they have agreed to 10% cap smoothing to avoid another Summer of 2016 scenario where everything spiked by like 35% in one shot.

It's crazy to look at the NBA cap by year. In 2000 it was $35M.
Talk about outpacing inflation. $1 in 2000 is worth $1.79 today.

How did we get Cole for such a low number? Jedi mind trick??
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

They’ve built a fantastic squad. It really is an alternate timeline Magic squad to me - so many guys I would’ve been happy or stoked for the Magic to pick.

I obviously don’t know anything as I have no inside information.

But a pattern is forming here. First WCJ and now Cole. I have to assume we simply don’t bid against ourselves. Other teams are likely just agreeing to what the agents ask for because they can afford it. However, we aren’t playing that game.

I’m going to assume when the time comes for Franz and Paolo we will see some much larger numbers.

I bet that at least three of those players will be elsewhere by the 2026 season. NOBODY in the NBA wants to live and work in OKC.

So, Antetokounmpo will now make 62M a year. Is he actually underpaid? Maybe.

Well yea of course if they stay on their trajectories it’s an east max contract for both. But teams get into trouble when they pay their supplemental pieces too much our front office is doing a good job keeping those down.

I was listening nba preview of Ex Yougoslavia/Balkan pro writers.

Their nba takeaways are:
Nuggets won't repeat- they have 5 men roster and bunch of Europe bound bodies
Celtics won't survive regular season with no depth either.
Warriors are old.

NBA title favorites: Bucks.
Most interesting teams to watch: Spurs, OKC & Pacers.

Dark horse for biggest positive suprise - Pacers.

Magic related: potential to make big leap. They really don't like Banchero all that much. They said Franz is much better player overall.

Most irritating teams: 76ers ( drama, drama) and Heat ( boring basketball  )
