Once expansion hits, we'll lose some of our good players..
Need at least 1 title in 2024 or 2025..
The real reason is Wemby will win all the rings once he matures.

That's another reason, yes.
Plus in 2-3 yrs, Wemby should have a better supporting cast. His supporting cast is bad now, so now is our chance..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Love this because this was absolutely my thoughts as well. The combination of players just wasn't working for whatever the reason. It would've been so easy to just reload and say "We're so close! Don't change anything!" But that team as constructed had reached its ceiling. So glad our owner had the conviction to say "F it all. Go get whatever you need and get me a REAL title-contending team. Damn the cost!" What we have now is so much more dynamic and I think it's gonna payoff this year. Love Marcus and always will but even with as good as he is/was when you see the potential impact that the skillset KP has can have on the rest of the roster, it's a no-brainer. It's a championship-level move and one that had to be made. I wasn't sure Wyc and the FO would prioritize winning to this level with the new CBA coming like this but I was wrong and am glad to be so.

I mean I wish there was a way to improve the team without losing Smart but the Clippers kinda ruined that and even then you’ve give up something to get something and Jrue is a better player. I just don’t like anything that makes Marcus or the Celtics look bad. Let’s just pretend it never happened and quit talking about it so I can get out of my feels.
others have already responded to the same effect, but I didn't even sweat Marcus' comments, just thought -- big picture -- that's what makes Marcus Marcus: he cares. And he doesn't hide it, and he's going to try to use it as fuel on the court. Exactly as it should be. That's part of why we love him.
Now I'll hush up and let you enjoy opening night without ruminating on this. The trades were hard but the team is better and apparently that's what Big Baller Brad was put on this Earth to do.

I love what we're hearing and seeing and inferring about the focus and intensity of this team.
A year ago the Celtics were trying to win with this
and it's not all on Grant [Jaime Foxx voice] but the team seems much more likely to be locked in where they need to be
a) no last-minute coach removal like September '22
b) no brand-new interim coach like September '22
c) no Marcus, Grant, even Blake -- I think Bobby Manning called it a very lighthearted locker room last year, and that might not have been the path for the Jay's development, compared to where Jrue and Porzingis and all these 26-year-old hungry guys are in their career development.

Re: Celtics 2023-24, Season Thread
Was on my way in to work today and listening to Forsberg's pod talking to Gorman about beginning this, his final season. Forsberg asked him about what he would miss and I realized that I am not ready emotionally to see him sign off for the last time. Kinda made me tear up a little bit, I gotta admit. Like many here, I grew up listening to Mike Gorman. I even had the privilege of a lifetime to meet him at the draft party when we took Jaylen and discuss his thoughts. I'm at the stage of my life now where I'm beginning to realize that things and people that I care about are going to start getting taken away from me. I already know that that last game is going to render me inconsolable.

I do think it helps the way the C's kind of let them go slowly. First Tommy, and now Gorman. By not going to away games, we kind of get a chance to get used to them not being there a little at a time rather than just cold turkey. I imagine that Gorman will still be around a little even after retiring (then again, he might just want to stay at home and relax). Tommy stayed around in some small studio appearances, so maybe Gorman will do the same.
Definitely won't be the same without his amazing voice!

The last time a Celtics big man averaged 15 ppg or more was when Garnett brought us a title in 2008. Al and Garnett have had a couple of 14 ppg seasons and a couple of 13 ppg seasons since then.
KP is the first big guy since Al Jefferson in 2007 and KG in 2008 that could end up averaging 17-20 ppg. It’s such a game changer to have that kind of production from a big.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

AD, Giannis, Jokic. 3 of the last 4 NBA champions had a high scoring big. Then you also have Siakam in 2019 (16 PPG in reg season, that jumped to 19 PPG in playoffs).
We just lost to a Heat team with Bam who gets around 19-20 PPG, and pretty much all of that from inside the arc.
Only recent title team without an inside scoring presence was the Warriors but they had the greatest 3 pt shooting duo in NBA history in terms of volume and efficiency..we don't have that. We're not the splash brothers. We don't have Steph, Klay and Poole on the same team. We need an inside presence. Porzingis will be huge.

Professionals think the Suns/Lakers are going to the finals in that proportion?
I suppose then they have their arses covered for the actual Denver matchup.

Damn. I’ve harped on the front court needing some scoring more than anyone but I didn’t know that lol. Pretty stark.

Fun Stat of the Day: Jayson Tatum and Kristaps Porzingis of the Boston Celtics are the only pair of teammates averaging 30+ ppg this season.
