Torre, Mattingly to join Dodgers; Grady Little fired

The Los Angeles Dodgers have decided to fire manager Grady Little and replace him with former Yankees manager Joe Torre, The Journal News has learned.

Torre, 67, could be named manager as soon as tomorrow, according to two sources close to the situation. Don Mattingly is expected to accompany Torre to Los Angeles as his bench coach. Torre is also interested in hiring Kevin Long, his hitting coach with the Yankees.

A Brooklyn native, Torre rooted for the Dodgers as a child.

The Dodgers were 82-80 this season under Little and were beset by clubhouse unrest. Owner Frank McCourt, a Boston native, decided Torre is best suited to quell that situation.

Torre turned down a one-year offer to remain as manager of the Yankees on Oct. 18. He had been with the Yankees 12 seasons, winning four World Series championships.

Sweet. Grady Little is the worst manager in sports.

Go Dodgers. Pretty funny though, considering McCourt is a diehard Red Sox fan and basically just takes any Red Sox castoff that he can. Little, Mueller, Garciaparra, Lowe, etc.

How long will Broxton's arm last and will Torre start all those young players or what?

Grady Little used Scott Proctor more than Joe Torre did this year. Broxton was headed towards Tommy John with Grady Little anyways.

Joe is a much better manager than Grady Little.

I agree. Everyone is a much better manager than Grady Little.

Like, this keyboard I'm typing on for example. Or that clock over there on the wall. At least it runs on time.

Yeah, I don't even watch MLB anymore & I knew that Little shoulda tooken Pedro out earlier in the ALCS. He didn't & paid 4 it. Shady loses to Torre again.

If this management group can't get the Dodgers into the postseason, I don't know who can.

Arod & Torre don't have a great relationship.

A-Rod could definitely go to Los Angeles. Trade Furcal for some sort of starting pitcher and go with A-Rod at short. Or move Furcal to second and get rid of Kent's corpse.

Do no **** block Andy LaRoche at third.

and?? I'll take the word of those who cover the Yankees that say Alex never forgave Torre for batting him 8th in the lineup against the Tigers. Torre didn't even call Alex to let him know, Alex found out by reading the lineup card in the clubhouse an hour before the game.

Alex could go to the Dodgers but it won't be because Torre is there, its because they offer the most money.

Of course, Nate Silver says this is an awful idea. I agree, but this is Frank McCourt running a baseball team here.
