Re: The Anthony Black Thread
Its just not worth it to give up Suggs or Black to accommodate for Markelle's lack of shooting. I also worry about the extension/new contract they're going to give Fultz as i dont believe he is worth over 15 mill/yr.
Markelle needs to be replaced, and if Howard and Black can show their potential this season we might not have to re-sign Cole in the offseason.

I get this, but I don’t really spend too much time worrying about people taken before us. To me, the question is, who could we have had but chose instead and that’s where I start my evaluation. In this situation, I clearly would’ve gone for Whitmore over Black both on potential and fit, and I would’ve gone with Lively at 11 to have a solid back up big which I think we’re lacking with as well and he would have gotten immediate PT. Now, we would still have the same shooting issues we currently have, but then we could evaluate our current guards and determine if a trade or free agent signing to augment our shooting deficiencies was necessary. I would feel much better about the upcoming season if this were the case, in that I think we would be as competitive or more so in the current season while still also investing for the future using our lottery picks in a smart way.

Not a bad plan at all. My problem with this is that the backcourt is our biggest weakness, with only Suggs to give us a glimmer of hope. Investing one or more lottery tickets into the backcourt just made too much sense. It's a glut of riches to have even one potential rising star in the backcourt while having two already in the frontcourt, and such is our luck that we could add two more to the backcourt.YosemiteSam wrote:DiplomaticMagic wrote:If we had Ausar instead of Black, my excitement wouldve been through the roof for the season. But the befuddling thing to me is that we don't seem laser focused on maximizing the development of these two new backcourt lotto talents. It feels... irrational to bury them on the deep bench. Especially behind Harris, who to me has the most known and limited value of the bunch.

I agree with both aspects. Feels weird and very hard to see the forest from the trees.
Either you trust the backcourt or you dont.
Or I guess you see where the backcourt takes you and then use that as your excuse to do ye olde "additional by subtraction" and lose them for nothing in FA.

It s a mismatch - we drafted two projects, apparently for a season where we hope to compete so they won't play much if at all, but they both are not clear upside projects and both have big bust potential without superstar potential. Low ceiling and low floor. Perplexing. That is why I like Whitmore (high ceiling, high bust potential, not a positional need so ok to bring along slowly) and Lively (lower ceiling, high floor, positional need so immediate playing time)

Re: The Anthony Black Thread
His jumpshot needs complete rework. From ground up.
For start his "jump-shot" has no - jump in it.
Second problem is low shot release, and third problem is slow shot release. Like dude, you ain't Nikola Jokic, you are average sized player, you won't be able to shoot ball without elevating yourself against elite athletes.
Non of it will have quick fix. Well, i guess thatt's why they esencially red-shirting him for 2023-24 without injuries.

Re: The Anthony Black Thread
A true indicator for AB will be to see how he progresses during the season.
That's really what I'm looking for with him his rookie year being third in the depth chart behind Fultz and Cole. He should be able to get minutes when we inevitably start dealing with injuries.
As long as we can see an upward trajectory, as he carves out a role going into his Sophomore season, I'm good.

If the Magic start string, as the team hopes, Black will get even less playing time moving forward.

So we are just going to bury him on the bench from the looks of it

Re: The Anthony Black Thread
Anthony Black is not going to play a lot this season from what I see mainly because of the minutes distribution and rotation.
But hey, dude has a bright future

Re: The Anthony Black Thread
ab is not ready to be a plus permanent starter but compare how he looked in a small sample compared to other rookie guards or really any of the rookies (all of these will statements will always exclude wemby) and he is definitely does not appear to be some outlier way far away prospect

Off to a great start. Would prefer that he's in the rotation though. Love that he's putting in the work. Mosley will do the right thing and plug him into the rotation soon. I believe.
