Hayward is so valuable if he could just stay healthy.
Theo greatly reduced my fear of backup point guard, with Smith as insurance, we don't need Franc unless he used as a situational defender only.

I really hope we dump Bridges ASAP

I know that I predicted around 50 wins this year if healthy and if Miles can return so I am not too surprised with how well we played.

Great way to start the year, after watching the Panthers and ECU football the past two months seeing an actual win is something special

Congrats on a big win, fellas. I hear the expectations for you guys isn't sky high this season...but you all seem to own my Hawks.

And it's always nice to start the season with a win at Home. Best of luck this season.

I really hope the new owners switch to this logo/uniform/colors permanently, its just so much cleaner and classic looking than the current wordmark.

Thanks for looking pretty bleak there for a while in that first half. I really didn't see the offense picking it up. Lamelo was just so bad. And when Mark and Gordon went to the bench everything just completely fell apart.

Was definitely not expecting to see oh just show up without having played it all and get minutes like that. If he could ever learn how to shoot a three and even a average rate coming he'd be more than an adequate backup.

Happy to see Miller finally make some 3s.

When PJ plays like that, we almost always win

last but not least come a Mark Williams is a f****** stud

Absolutely. But PJ, Terry, Hayward and Miller are not too shabby either. If we get Miles back and stay healthy we are actually a pretty good team.

I think bench depth is going to be an issue throughout the season. Its a good sign that Clifford aggressively staggered rotations in game one instead of waiting til game 35 or whatever (hopefully he continues this with a healthy roster). The starting lineup should able to be reasonably competitive with most teams, but the depth of talent in the league right now is just insane (time for expansion imo) and there are going to be very few easy wins to come by.

Great angle to show off just how high up Mark got on that snatch block last night. He's so good, we waited a long damn time for a big man like this.

Overall good game, only real - was Melo shot poorly.

Play the Pistons next, good chance to start 2-0

I'm encouraged by the fact we won without Melo having a great game. Shows the team has another gear to reach when he's clicking.

4/11 from 3 is about his shooting average from last season. Didn’t finish at the basket well/get fouls drawn. I do expect him to shoot better from deep though, so I think I get what you mean.

Looking at Jalen Duren's boxscore last night - 17/14 on 8-11 with 4 blocks. Remind me what we got in return for that pick again? Imagine having Williams and Duren.

Agreed, biggest positive takeaway for me is we won against a good team and really didn't play well for large chunks of the game. Tons of turnovers, Melo played pretty awful, missing 2-3 rotation guys (Martin, Miles, Frank), and still pulled out the win.

Are the Hawks good?

eta: Athletic week 1 power ranking of #19, 8th worst EC team. Hornets #30 so definitely better projected team.

There are some main stream media figures pushing Hawks are good this year.
Bill Simmons has them 4th in the East, they are one of the deepest teams in the league.

So beating them short handed was a nice way to start year.

Hawks are a definite play-in contender at absolute worst. So it's a quality win in the sense that it shows the Hornets have play-in potential.

They are solid, but there aren't many teams really lacking for talent right now and I don't think they are particularly all that good. I see them finishing somewhere between 7-11 in the East, but I also think the Hornets match up well against them and have done a good job in the past at exploiting Trae, so I think they are actually one of the more beatable teams in the league for the Hornets.
