Pure hot stove inquiry: anybody on this Packer roster that might get moved out by the deadline?

Not too many options on O. I guess if you got a nice deal for Jones maybe. Hell if some team wanted Oline depth and offered like a 5th for Runyan or Meyrers I'd do it since I'm not really interested in giving either guy a second contract.

On D maybe Campbell or Douglas. Id quietly take calls on Kenny Clark.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Nijman if they get any reasonable offer? The Pack needs linemen desparately, but Nijman seems to be slipping into oblivion here, and I believe he's a UFA after the season. Some contender with OLine depth problems might bite?

Apparently Preston Smith is a name being bounced around leading up to the deadline. Would cost the Packers $4 million in dead cap to move him.

He wasn't going to be back next year unless he took a pay cut. His 2024 cap number is $16.5 million (up from $6.3 million this year). And he'll be 32. His deal extends through 2026. If we can get out from under it now for $4 million hit I'm all for it.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Yep. I'd absolutely deal Preston even for just a day 3 pick

In the Bat **** Crazy department: what might the return be for un-extended Rashan Gary, if Gute decides to alter the Cap trajectory down the road? No, I do NOT think that ones going to happen, but is there any defensible logic to such a move? Gary will want a bundle, and while he's flashed some of his previous best form, is there enough new tape to justify the Pack handing out a fat extension?

Im not doing it for anything less than 2 1sts at minimum. I'd be willing to listen to see if some team offers a great package but it's not something I'd be actively looking to do.

Seems like more risk than reward to float a guy before he signs an extension. Unless the numbers are just unreasonable for extension.

I agree, I wouldn't actively shop him, but I'd always listen if someone called with an offer

One other caveat, the only teams I would think might consider a risky move like that are contenders with a weak spot at edge. Shake the dice and take yer chances, but is there a team in that situation? The flip side there is any pick return is later in any round with a contender.

Glazer says the Packers are interested in adding a RB. If Gute buys instead of sells that's a fireable offense imo

Nothing would surprise me now. Gute (and the coaches) may be feeling heat and get desperate to try to salvage this season and their jobs.

Reminds me of the Jenkins extension, which also made more sense on paper than in reality. I think they should be trading guys like that for picks. It's going to take a while to rebuild. They're going to waste their prime years on bad Packers squads and then be cap burdens when you wish the cap was clean.

ETA: I do realize he could completely dominate the rest of the season and be worth even more in a trade now that he's been extended. Hopefully that's what they do.

Praying Gary actually plays up to the level of his contract unlike Alexander & Clark.

Great news. His extension value would have been much higher if he hadn't torn his ACL when he was on pace for an All-Pro level season last year. Silver linings I guess?
