Backup caliber point guard who has absolutely no business playing 30 minutes a night.

Re: Markelle Fultz
I want Fultz replaced, but i cannot blame him too much for the loss last night. Didnt love his defensive effort/focus, but thats not the main reason we lost. Personally I wouldve given him more shots. You saw how at one point he bullied Reaves to the rim. I wanted to see more of that and its something i mentioned before the game even started.

Re: Markelle Fultz
I disagree with many of you… Fultz is not the issue, how he is utilized is the issue… There is zero reason why his usage rate isn’t higher and we use him like Westbrook 2.0…. Our two strongest points in the game were him pushing pace and recognizing/finding Harris when he was hot and him picking apart defense with ball in his hand in 4th…

Paolo and Franz are supposed to be our dominant scorers.

I came here just to see how much flack might be given to fultz for the loss. lol. Not surprising. Paolo and Franz have bad games... Fultz's fault. We were in a tough matchup pushed to the final minutes.... and the veteran team won that one... because they knew where they wanted to go with the ball at the end of the game. tough loss... but hopefully a good learning experience.

Fultz was a positive player in this game. The loss is 100% not on him.

Re: Markelle Fultz
Fultz may not be a great PG, but to me he is pretty exceptional at his ability to get into the lane and find a good option to pass out/off to. He knows when turn on the extra boost and catch a defense before they settle. And he may not be a shooter, but he is hands down the best player we have at assisting shooters and apparently we need that as much as we need the shooting.

Re: Markelle Fultz
Its just as many posters here wrote many times before. Fultz is ok IF he is acting like number one option, awful if anything else.
First half he was beyond brutal. Passing open shots, bricking open shots, passing open 3s to missing contested 2s. It was obvious that Fultz makes Banchero and Wagner life miserable if they want to handle the ball.
When Fultz handles the ball he doesnt ruin possesion for others and he also uses his speed and size. Not bad option when defense is used to ignore you not good when you need to create half court offense for long stretches.

My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

I don’t feel like many are blaming Fultz for the loss. If you look at at the game thread Paolo is getting all the criticism (and rightfully he has played like trash). Hell, there is a new thread saying we should have drafted Chet after 3 games, lol. Fultz was the only reason why the magic didn’t get blown out last night.

Maybe even he was never that good as during those 30+ games in Washington, because Fultz wasn't that good in high school. This is not discussion driven by Fultz actual skillset and performance, there's nothing much to be said there. He is capable of playing a role of the bench, but your team ain't going anywhere if he is featured.
This is, in a way, essentially Darko 2.0 situation. They both got traded here to resurrect their career and prove that they belong to NBA, both given plenty of opportunity to prove more, but we are at the point where it is time to get Rashard Lewis and set Fultz free.
Fultz has played three games and is 10/5/3 for the season. Basically that is what his final-season stats are projected to look like.
Positives start with his +/- of positive 7.7. When he is on the court, the Magic score more plints than surrendered. His assist / To is a nice 3. He is a good rebounder and competent defender.
Negatives start with he is 0.00% from the three-point line this year. Only three attempts, with zero makes. That is amplified with hi having a 0.00% FT percentage, as in three games he has not taken a SINGLE free throw.
What we are left with is a player than can guide others but cannot manufacture points. Fultz will never be more than the 4th or 5th starter on this, or any team. Can Orlando win like that? Well a lot of teams have ignored their PG and done well. But those teams used the PG as 3-D players.
I still cannot assess him on this team though, as until there is a 37% three-point shooter taking 4 or more at the SG slot, this is a big INCOMPLETE.
In conclusion, if the Magic retain Fultz, it is clear that Suggs would need to be traded. These three games have made that point crystal clear.
Interesting positive point in 3 games so far. How does that stat look like in larger sample, say every season in his NBA career?

Are we going back to 2017 to play games? Or are we playing games in 2023?
Career stats are only useful as a point of comparison to show progress from the beginning. Anyone who lists career numbers when talking about players is absolutely just trying to water down recent successful performances by rolling in early career struggles into the tally.

No, you are correct. We should use plus/minus from 3 games instead. Please.

Probably would be best to just close it now. I think this thread has ran its course.

I’m not sure what happened but your takes have been so far off the mark lately.
