One thing I'll say about Brad is that he has a good grip on how players/skill-sets blend together. A lot of that probably comes from coaching. He knows what worked, what didn't work, and he's very familiar with the players across the league.
I say this because it's pretty clear when you look at his moves. He knew he inherited a star foundation in Tatum & Brown, but a roster that was broken. He immediately started building by bringing in players that would help bring out the best in JT/JB. Horford was brought back. DWhite was brought in. Now Porzingis and Jrue. The 1 common theme with those 4 guys is they're all team first, connective tissue type of players. Porzingis wasn't that type of guy 2-3 years ago, but he is now. He's loving this situation he's in.
Brad also brought in length and versatility on the cheap with guys like Stevens, Walsh, OB, Banton, Svi, Hauser. Brad knows that out of that group a couple will emerge as effective role players. Or it may end up being a rotation of that group depending on who's earning the time.
His final move will come later this season when he finds a way to bring in a legitimate 3rd big. The "PJ Brown" type. Probably, a veteran who knows how to play and is at the point in his career where he won't care about how many minutes he plays. Someone capable and trustworthy if thrown into a playoff game because of foul trouble or injury.
The 1 player that keeps coming to mind as a PERFECT fit for the Celtics is Xavier Tillman. I predicted before the season started that Memphis was going to struggle this year. It's a bridge year for them. They need to get through the Ja Morant saga. So far, that's been exactly the case. Now, it's WAY too early for them to panic and fold....But later in the season they will realize this isn't their year. At which point Brad needs to offer 2-4 second round picks for Tillman. He's the IDEAL 3rd big for this team. An unselfish, tough, defensive minded 4/5 that is afraid of the big moment. He's played in playoff games filling in for Steven Adams. Only 1.9 on the cap. Expiring contract. He's perfect.
