I’m assuming POR would value picks most but almost anything’s on the table, imo.

ORL sends…WCJ (versatile PF next to Ayton), Cole (Simons’ role at half price), Harris (shooter, expiring), Fultz (expiring filler), Chuma,
24 ORL frp (top 3), 25 DEN frp (top 5)

POR sends…Brogdon, Simons, Williams (not a fit next to Ayton, injury history)(both guards too old and/or expensive to back up kids)

Brogdon and Simons can play together or either can play with Fultz or Black, Brogdon stabilizes guard rotation and when Simons/Fultz/Black is ready to take over in a year or two, Brogdon bows out or moves to bench. Black gets his reps in next to a shooter and 3 of the 4 project to (or are) notable defenders. Sacrificing WCJ hurts but we plug in combo of Williams, Moe, Goga and make do. Williams, if able to stay on the floor, could even be better-fitting long-term answer or we just keep looking to strengthen least important modern NBA position. We support Paolo & Franz with multiple high-level shooters and build a modern offense correctly. I’d even add another protected (down the road) pick, if needed, or a dozen srps as we see the relative on-court value of mid to late firsts and the negligible value of seconds. We’ve got enough high-upside prospects to be developed still on the roster in Black, Jett, and Suggs.

im on board with Simons, not with Brogdon. He already failed a physical that caused a team to not trade for him in the summer. if he was expiring maybe, but not for another $22mil for next year. And i dont have a problem using WCJ to upgrade the overall team build. He is a decent to good player on a great deal, but he isnt a difference maker to me and we could find similar play.

Agree Simons > Brogdon long term, but both are good and Brogdon might be a year or two at point and slide over, as needed.

WCJ is great, but could be best chip…how about Keldon Johnson? If I’m SAS, I want some muscle next to Wemby and WCJ is young and easily 4/5 as Wemby develops. Add Chuma for salary match

The Raptors is bringing Gary Trent Jr. off of the bench. A trade of Suggs for Trent instantly leads to wins that Suggs is leading the team to losses.

Loooking up SGs making threes: alec-burks, max-strus, lonnie-walker, and bogdan-bogdanovic have all started very strong.

The Magic needs a starting shooting guard that can (and does) shoot.

Do you agree or disagree: Orlando needs better shooting from its guards?

It is clear that Fultz and Suggs cannot co-exist. One of the two needs to go: this season, before the trade deadline.

Replacing Fultz for a high volume PG that can also lead the offense: that's a max player in today's NBA.
Replacing Suggs for a high volume SG that can also play "some" defense: that's a MLE player in today's NBA.

I am not a fan of Fultz per se, it is just that it is "easier" to upgrade the SG slot over the PG slot.

Suggs is playing elite defense and bringing elite energy. And he's on his rookie contract. It's not a hard decision.

Edit: said another way, if we want to be a top 5 defense, we need to play Suggs. If we want to be a top 20 offense... Fultz doesn't matter.

It was always clear that this wasnt going to work. Fultz needs to go to the bench or to another team.

Trade for Trae Young. A Trae/Suggs backcourt would be fire. Keep Franz and Paolo though.

This is what upgrading Fultz would look like. I am not a Young fan, but of course I could get behind this notion. I also agree that Suggs could patch over a lot of what is wrong about Young's game. AND: Mosley's defense-first approach could promote Young to a great player, rather than just a great scorer. Right now, Young is his generation's Dominique Wilkins. Yes they play a different position, but both are show horses, not work horses.

Now a trade that gets Young starts with Fultz and 4 first-round draft picks. Then negotiations take it up from there. Actually I cannot see how a trade can be made without F-Wagner or Banchero being part of it unless Young demands a trade Harden-style.

I would be open to trade for Young, Doncic or Mitchell. Doesnt seem to be possible right now.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Tyus Jones would be a sneaky add either at the deadline or in FA. While he might not be the lights out scorer he can still shoot the rock and facilitate well enough.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

2 1sts from the Magic? I wouldnt do that. I would give up 1 pick+ a 2nd for both, but that 1st will probably be a good pick. If the Blazers are looking for a 1st for each, they will likely have to settle for very late 1sts.

Acquiring a high volume SG solves nothing if the offense is sagging off of everyone but 1 guy. The issue isn’t volume. The issue is overall spacing at the point of attack.

I’m only interested in Simons if he can actually run point guard. He’s a net negative defensively, which Suggs can make up for somewhat.

In this iteration, I suppose I'd agree to include the DEN 25 frp. WCJ is arguably the best player in the deal, just more useful to POR. Williams and Simons are, to this point, specialists, and Williams' health is unreliable. I'm not knocking them at all, obviously. WCJ is an excellent player that could move around in the POR rotation (with or without Ayton) and contribute immediately. He's also very young and on, maybe the best deal in the NBA. I don't think Fultz is the guy for ORL, but he's a very viable PG and still young enough to take a long look at before his $17m deal expires.

POR sends: Simons, R. Williams
ORL sends: DEN 25 frp, Wendell Carter, Fultz, Chuma

Return to Orlando Magic
