This is EXACTLY what I've been saying we need to hope for with the Cowboys. They sneak into the playoffs as a WildCard team and then just magically get "HOT".
It happens. Sometimes the WildCard wins it all.
That's what happened to the Mavericks when they win it all. They were literally the underdog in every single post season matchup that year. No one thought they could beat the Lakers let alone LeBron and Heat. They got HOT and Dirk silenced all of his BJJs.
I’m not a huge baseball fan but do follow the Rangers (born and raised in Dallas). Them winning the World Series reminds me of how I felt when the Mavs finally won a title. I’ve been a Mavs fan since ‘92 and saw A LOT of bad basketball and saw them get robbed in ‘06. This Rangers title feels like that.
Before Dirk won it all everyone declared him "soft". Everyone said that you can not win a title with Dirk as your leader because he is not like LeBron or Duncan or an elite on their level. They were underdogs through it all, and you know what. It wasn't Dirk that finally changed, it was HIS TEAM. Everyone ELSE finally came together. Desean Stephenson was an elite defender who handled up on LeBron. Tyson Chandler peaked and was the center they needed. Jet Terry primed out. Marion and Kidd provided vet experience.
They all finally gelled together perfectly in the post season, with all the odds against them.
This is the exact same thing that *COULD* happen to Dak. You will never ever ever ever convince me that it is literally impossible to win with Dak Prescott. He isn't elite, but he is good enough if the team around him gels like the 2011 Mavs. Will Dak ever win a ring? Odds are no, he won't. But it won't be because he isn't good enough, because he is. So was Romo.
Speaking of NBA though...Dirk and others in the NBA actually have more right to being credited with "wins and losses" than any NFL QB does.
A lead NBA star plays with only 11 others, and has to play both offense and defense. A star NBA player has way more affect on the game than any NFL player does. A QB only plays offense, and even on offense requires a ton of help from others. Even a simple pass play requires blockers to block, and a WR to catch it. Whereas in the NBA a star player can literally score without help from anyone else.
I would say that the ONLY sports where athletes should get credit for wins and losses are single player sports. Tennis, Boxing, etc. I don't even like it when MLB pitchers are given a W/L stat. It isn't fair to them when things out of their control cost them the game.
