Batum isn’t gonna give up $12M by retiring early. My guess is they’re working out the logistics of whether his wife joins him in Philly or if he goes by himself for a season.

I think the idea is that, if he has to move from LA, he'd rather retire, especially if his wife isn't happy.
So you think Morey will end up buying out the rest of his contract?
No, then you can't trade it as an expiring, the contract is just gone. If need be they can let him sit at home, put him on an inactive list where his contract is still in place, but possibly not getting paid, etc. A buy out would ruin all of the long term value...or maybe Morey can flip him somewhere else. He can't be aggregated in a trade for 60 days, but he can be traded by himself or with a draft pick attached.

Btw, didnt like Bodner’s new podcast. Too dry for me.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Or maybe Batum doesn't want to play with Embiid because he snubbed the French national team.

If Bane were to become available...
JJJ is cheaper. Grizz also has a lot of bigs.
I'd consider one of JJR or Bane untouchable. I'm not sure who, might be both to be honest.
Again, this is why I said I'd watch closely. Right now I think both are untouchable. If JA's situation doesn't get better the Grizz in a small market may hold a fire sale to reboot and clear the books. Bane is the better player and better fit for us. JJJ is redundant.
Maxey and Bane would give you two 40%+ 3pt shooters at the perimeter. Their gravity would be huge for Joel.

Jesus good God Nic Batum! It's 12 million dollars bro! Finish out the season and retire! I bet he'd be fine playing in Boston or New York. I mean WTF man?

I'm warming to the possibility of keeping / re-signing Assassin next summer assuming he comes at a reasonable price, like $25m/yr for 4 years. That will be a better value than a guy like Siakam for $45m/yr.
Then maybe $30m/yr for OG and you're set at the forward spots.

If Memphis decides to go in another direction they will build around Bane and JJJ, putting other players up for sale. Both are young, cost controlled and excellent players who aren't getting in trouble. Either one would be cost prohibitive and likely not offered at all. A Memphis retooling would start with a Ja trade, which I hope we don't want, but that kind of movement creates opportunites in other ways and with other players and/or teams.

Nobody is freaking out Boomer. BTW, those haven't been prescribed since the 80s. You're showing your age with this one.

We're the same age so if I'm a Boomer, YOU're also a Boomer. Calm down Boomer, you're showing your age via transitive property.
Now answer the question. Boomer.

If we can add a couple of players this year and have the cap room and mutual interest at a fair price and term I am very open to this. The latter part might be more difficult since Tobi seems a bit sensitive about how he is perceived here, but when you look at the available FA's next summer, Tobi and Melton are two of the better ones. Adding at the trade deadline then re-signing those two and finishing out the bench in the summer would work well.
Too early to tell, but I would not rule it out just because people didn't like his last contract, but a lot has to happen before now and then.

It might be as simple as a kid's recital or championship game that he promised to go to. I'm sure he'll join the team soon.

You underestimate the small market issue. Memphis needs a headliner. Bane and JJJ at their current contracts are negatives as they don't draw in the fans and don't help sell the team. No FA's are going to Memphis. As a small market, you blow it up and hunt for that "star" that Ja was supposed to be. You don't keep paying 30+ mil to a secondary piece.

Batum hasn't said anything about not coming. He found out from social media on his wife's phone while getting the kids ready for school. The fact they have young kids in school adds a layer of logistics that might take him a bit to figure out. It's not easy to decide if to keep kids in their school they know (probably a private school) or to uproot them.

Michael Scotto says the Sixers are interested in Lavine and Anunoby, says Nurse loves Anunoby. Said they're also interested in Donovan Mitchell and are monitoring his situation in Cleveland, and are interested in Bojan.
Said they are not believed to be interested in Derozan or Siakam.
Says they are going to be very aggressive in trading for a star level player either by this deadline or in summer 2024.

God that's scary. LaVine or Anunoby is just crazy. I don't see the benefit of LaVine when we have Maxey who effectively does the same thing but more efficiently.

I guess the good thing for OG + Pascal is they'd get to play with Maxey and not against him.
Yep, not really interested in that scenario.
Markkanen or Jaren Jackson Jr.

OG is a great fit, but can't be the final piece IMO. I don't think his addition puts us on Boston or Milwaukee's level.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Watford/Barlow/Walker
Embiid/Drummond/Bona/Broome

Yep. Since Batum has little kids, it's gonna take him a minute to get it all straight.
