Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread - Part 6
We all expected him to make a jump this year. So far he's doing it while being efficient. Has a netrtg of 8.5 and 60%TS. Nice usage right at 24%
above all, his shot mechanics (yes im beating a dead horse) is the most impressive. He really fixed his shot. That step back 3 yesterday was nice

Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread - Part 6
Let's also remember what people said would be a good season. I can see that expectations keep growing with each passing game. He's got some huge numbers right now, but pretty much everyone was saying 18 PPG and high rebounding and assist numbers would be huge.
He has clearly taken on the alpha role of the team. He's just a different breed of player than what the rest of the team is. If Gradey can get that shot down now, him and Barnes can really play off each other.

Tied for tops of the league in DWS...
The overall improvement in his game has been amazing to witness. The consistency and ease in which he's stuffing that stat sheet right now is making me a believer that this isn't just a simple hot streak.
He's legit having that LeBron-like impact but he's his own special archetype too considering his back to the basket scoring, rebounding and outsized blk% is analogous to a top shelf big.

Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread - Part 6
In regards to freethrows, I think it has a lot to do with forcefulness when attacking the rim. Pressing positional advantages/ making defenders react to you instead of the other way around.
I think the refs are already starting to want to give him calls (they can see a star in the makings)

His usage is up to 26, so it's a very positive sign that he's able to do this with a much higher workload.

That step back 3, and the pull up 3 was not part of his arsenal last year, huge improvement from this offseasonWuTang_OG wrote:We all expected him to make a jump this year. So far he's doing it while being efficient. Has a netrtg of 8.5 and 60%TS. Nice usage right at 24%

If this is not an all star in the east I dont know what is (so far)
Scoring chart resembles Kawhi in the championship year.

The key is for his teammates to recognize he is ascending. They needs to evolve their play to feed off what he does well. He has the potential to make everyone better.

Shooting 78% from midrange and 50% on jump shots overall. Obviously not sustainable, but like what I'm seeing. He's not forcing anything - could probably be even more aggressive, honestly.
Turnovers? Don't care, really. You want him a little more focused, but definitely take as many risks as possible this season and figure out what you can get away with.

The only thing that had me slightly hedging was the mid-range shot ability. With that out of the way, he's a more cerebral player than Paolo Banchero and will be a good level ahead of him on both ends of the floor when he puts it all together.
If you're a Raptor fan that hasn't internalized that we have a guy with Lowry/Gasol like intangibles in the body of an athletic 6'9 tank you're still not seeing the bigger picture.
And he's doing this with one arm tied behind his back whenever Jak is on the floor.

a 6'9" Lowry in theory is probably an MVP player

**** it. This time I'm going to believe it's sustainable.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Granted, this also assumes his 3p% stays where it is which is.....unlikely to say the least lol. He's gotta get up to 5/6 FTA a game imo.
With his strength he has the same issues that LeBron, Kawhi Shaq etc.had
He will likely have to start embellishing calls and look to be a bit of freethrow merchant. DeRozan style.
Yeah I was mentioning this before, he's going to have to sadly learn how to embellish because refs are trash.

Props TZ!

DG88 wrote:I just really love the progression of his shooting mechanics. He really hasn't have many bad looking misses from 3. Either short or long if he does miss. The mechanics are more compact and repeatable. I think he's going to be able to maintain his shooting for the season. Not at 43% rate that it's at now but it will level off to about 35-37% on the year, which is a HUGE development!
All I can recall is a singular bad miss, and it was last night. Corner 3 airball that went past the basket, it's weird he seems to have a better shot from the arc than the shorter spots.

Props TZ!

Get him some shooters and he'll be the first 30/10/10 since Big O - book it.

It's Barnes and Mobley as the best picks of that draft IMO. Then Murphy, followed by Cunningham (not sold on him at all) and Wagner.
I was talking about this with a buddy the other day. The shine is wearing off what was initially heralded as "one of the best draft classes in a long time". Herbert Jones would go top 15 maybe even top 10, in a redraft today.

It will be an adjustment for a guy like Siakam- who is due for a salary bump while also training his replacement.

Sengun is going to drive the offense in Houston one day once they wake up from this guard ball. This is imo the order of how this will play out over the course of their career.
Barnes
Sengun
Next tier:
Cunningham (if he can ever find his jumper consistently)
Mobley
Next tier:
Giddey
Franz
Those will be the highest impact players from this draft imo.
