Why are they interested in Lavine, though? Makes no sense to have a backcourt making $80m+ together. Them being interesting in Lavine makes me nervous about them secretly looking to move Maxey for another big piece.

Are they really though? Lavine is a convenient and buzzy name to toss out there in any trade rumor. Most Sixers rumors these days are just cycling through the guys whose teams are struggling or who might be FA's this summer or next.

I mean, Terrence Mann was all about being the guy Morey wanted...until he wasn't.

The only reason I could think of to have interest in LaVine is he should cost nothing. In fact, I could argue they might have to give something up to get off him.

I'm gonna guess Mitchell is their biggest target.

Because he's another guy next to Maxey that can get you 50 when Joel's thumb is hurt in the 2nd round and he can only be MVP level effective on defense. Control the offense with the ball in his hands when Maxey is on the bench, and is an athletic shooter.

And yeah, you should be able to get him without having to get rid of anyone that's a factor on this team right now

Lavine's knees are blinking red, he plays no defense and he's on a death row contract.

He can shoot 3s, so he's marginally more attractive than Demar Derozan, but neither of those two feel like needle movers.

I don't like Lavine as a player on that contract.

I like OG as a player, but feel pretty safe in assuming Ujiri is going to do what people accuse Morey of doing with his price tag.

Lavine’s not an ideal target. Mitchell would be better.

But if not Lavine or Mitchell, who can Sixers acquire for a perimeter shot creator for 2 firsts and a pick swap? Maybe Tyler Herro?

I think our team is still observing how good Maxey is. Can he be an elite ISO player or someone who we can rely on to create and score from the perimeter in crunch time?

Well, if Maxey is Dame 2.0, which is looking that way but not yet confirmed, then maybe a guy like OG at the 2 would suffice.

But what if Maxey is just a CJ McCullom type scorer? Then you’d need a Lavine type player for him to play with.

The only way to find out is for us to play close games against good teams at some point this season before the deadline.

Agreed. Lavine has been pretty much healthy for years now and you can get a guy like him and still have space to help the defense, rebounding even with a 2 way type guy that you can get later and they already currently exist on this roster.

People are just desperate to see what Maxey fully becomes without realizing, he's good enough to not need to see his best raw numbers and he's good enough to put a title team around along with Joel. They're as good as they've been over recent years right now, there may be an opportunity to actually win a title with the right move and if you have the ammo to get a 3rd star around your all star pg and MVP center.... Do it.

Is this team going to really go from sacrificing seasons and doing what's best to win Joel MVP to sacrificing this one to make Maxey All NBA?

all of the open looks Melton has been clanking and the fast breaks he's been blowing going to LaVine isn't a bad thing ,no?

He's not built to be a number one guy but what about a 2 or on some nights a 3?

It could be similar to LaVine's former teammate Wiggins going from being the guy to one who doesn't have to be...and on nights when the star is off, he can fill in that role for a stretch or two to steal a game.

Its scary because trading for LaVine would be THE move and idk if he's worth that but the idea isn't the worst

Not a huge fan of Lavine. That would be going all in on a guy we know doesn’t play D, and has injury history that may prevent him from being consistent contributor on O.

Not just the 3s Melton is clanking, but the layups. But people want to see if Maxey can average 30.

It would be THE move, because of the assets but also allows you to keep bird rights of Tobias and Melton and maybe one of these other wings they just traded for and have championship depth with high end talent and a good coach.

A trade for Lavine finishes the Embiid era with regard to any championship hopes. We become a perennial play-in team until Embiid inevitably leaves. I'll never understand the fascination so many have for stat sheet stuffing losing players.

The problem is that I expect that they will probably have to go all in one of these losing "stars". All of them would get maxed right? (OG, Siakim, Mitchell). Not DDR, but I doubt that's going their big move of the season/next offseason.

Lavine is an injury waiting to happen. He's also a glorified chucker and a losing player. I get maximizing our window with Embiid and I wouldn't completely hate the move, but I think we can do better. We should have the playoffs in mind from the get go. Which player(s) that are potentially available are the ones that we can use in a playoff setting? People keep looking at it with the whole "it's better than nothing" attitude and I disagree. Lavine is not a player you go all in on. OG Anunoby on the other hand? He'd be an overpay, but I'd rather have him. You need 2-way players in the postseason and he would be perfect.

I agree that's the direction they'll take, but I still don't get the star chasing thing if all putting all your chips on the table does is bring back guys like Siakam, Mitchell, or Lavine. It's like we haven't learned the lesson of the Bucks and Nuggets, and add solid role players who fit the scheme to build an 8-9 player rotation that works in the playoffs.

Morey was on spike Eskin’s RTRS. Just released an hour ago.

Morey: We have a real shot for a title if Maxey can be the second best player of a title team, because we have the ability to get the third best player of a title team with the assets we got and cap space we’ll have.

As ive said.. if we dont make a trade, Tobi and Oubre just have to be that third guy.
