Coach Mosley Appreciation Thread

Post#1 » by ogmagicfan » Sun Nov 5, 2023 10:41 pm

I always see posters talking down on Coach Mosely, but our team is:

2nd in Defensive Rating
14th in Offensive Rating
4-2 Record

We're one of the youngest teams in the league, and overacheiving again to start this season

Don't get me wrong, just like yall I nitpick at rotation choices & offensive creativity, but that's something fans get mad at to practically every coach. We all have certain ways we see things.

We don't exactly have a complete team either, we're handicapped by lack of shooting

It's clear Coach Mosley isn't a bridge coach, the players love him, theyve bought into his mission since day 1

We’ve had some failures and some early season obstacles, and Mosley has had them ready and competitive. He’s kept a deep team engaged and ready to roll. Players are showing growth from game to game.

I understand complaints about lineups and rotations but overall he has this team of young guys in top form.

Every fan complains about their coach's rotations, so I don't mind it, but like I wrote in a different post, people saying "we might need to move on" are just straight up silly.

Also, I'm someone who personally puts a lot of onus on the players, especially once they've shown a propensity for something. If there's 8 games of high defensive intensity and suddenly a huge drop off? Coaches didn't suddenly tell them to take their foot off the gas.

Same with things with rookies, I know people want more Jett minutes but if it comes with growing pains and losses, coaches get blamed for that. Or if Ingles is sucking and we wanted more Black minutes, suddenly it's okay to not have spacing in the lineup because of all the other things AB provides.. so people's opinions change all the time with lineups and just want what works all the time, which is always shifting and never a solid answer.

It's always an interesting scenario to monitor when the coach hired ahead of a clear rebuild where very little matters remains the coach when things start to matter.

A lot of coaches can't handle it and inevitably get replaced by a more "win now" coach. Mosley looks like he can handle it thus far.

This board is usually quick to blame a coach for the Magic's woes. But, it seems to be the way with NBA fans in general. Anyway, Mosley has made the most of what he's had on the roster IMO. Imagine what the Magic can do under his leadership when the cap isn't being utilized for players that have not been generally available (ex: Isaac).

Mosley is doing a terrific job and should be kept around long-term until he gives the Magic a darn good reason to move on to another coach.

I’m still wondering how he got the team to play for him in the 22-60 loss ‘21-22 season. He is a great players coach.

I like him, put Goga and AB into starting five was a good move.

I’m very impressed with Coach Mosely. The team has improved every year under him, obviously we’re very early this year but it looks that way again. Defensively this team in LEGIT and that’s the first step in turning a team into a contender, establishing an identity as a top notch defensive team has always lead to success for this franchise and Mosely’s done that with guys who weren’t necessarily known for it.

On the offensive side, it’s all about team chemistry for this squad and it’s working. I think Mosely gets a nice extension if we make the playoffs this season.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

Things to his credit:

Team over-performs expected wins based on average age
Elite defense is very coach driven

He's crushing it.

On offense, even though he says by committee, Franz and Paolo lead the team in usage, while Cole leads the bench in usage. The offense is hierarchical even if he says otherwise.

In terms of player development, I'm disappointed his hand had to be forced by injuries to play Black. I also don't love that Jett isn't getting mins.

On the flip side, Black earned the starting spot filling in for Fultz and seems to have progressed nicely since preseason. So maybe there is hope that Jett is getting good development reps as well.

I must have been mistaken. Or im lost.

I thought its a Magic Board tradition to have appreciation thread when said person is gone from the organization? Lolz... its supposed to be the same tradition that when other team waives a player, we immediately have a thread on why we should sign said scru.... i mean player.

I was caught off guard by the thread title. I can't remember an appreciation thread for an existing member of the organization. They're always for someone fired or released or traded. (I could be wrong)

I can't come up with a single complaint about the job that coach Mosley has done thus far. It is apparent to me that he is working specifically with the front office and not working against him in vice versa. IMO there's a belief that the entire organization believes in. From the ownership to the players. Time for us fans to believe too.

We can appreciate people while they're still members of the org, and considering Mosely is the best coach we've had since SVG, he deserves recognition

I've been impressed with Mosely. First year or two fans wanted him gone and my stance was hey first time coach with terrible talent we have no idea if he is good or not, let's see what he does with talent then we can make a determination. Now that he does I like his approach, the players seem to love him, seems to have built a team oriented culture, and he is getting results. The fact that he got all those training camp guys who knew would be cut to buy into a team oriented approach was impressive, really shows me he gets players to respond. He is my second favorite all time Magic coach after Stan.

Like Magicgirl said, his work in that 1st year, the guys never tuned him out. THEN, USA Basketball selected him as a coach. That endorsement speaks across the NBA to the players, that really had me sold.

I like him personally, but i do not think he is the coach for the future.

At some point you have to build something on offense,if not a proper system at least some strutture when you"re players have a role.

Right now i can't tell what Is the Magic game on offense,we live and die by effort, transition and Hope that Someone has a great offensive game, creating for others.

Clearly deserves time until the end of the season and has done a good job on D,but if you do not have lbj, doncic, ecc It Is really hard to play like this and having a decente offense.
