Game Thread 6-er: Washington Basketball Team @ Philly

I hope Kispert goes on a bit of a midseason bender to up his trade value. If you are going to be as bad as he is on defense and get no rebounds and no steals, you better be a lights out shooter and or get to the line. Kispert might do well on a really good team - one that can cover up for his defensive deficiencies and get him wide open looks in rhythm. But he sucks for us.

Kispert has been a disappointment so far. It's only 6 games, but his shooting has been off.

No D at all. Several solid offensive performances.

Deni looks very solid. Poole did better than he has. No D by anyone though.

Kispert has not only been off shooting, he’s making other bad plays too.
I expect he’ll be better at some point.

Poole's been playing better less bone headed but man the defence is trash by everyone not just Poole so at some point that's on the HC. The bench is just trash. Bilal has some good moments but kispert hasn't been great, Jonny was bad. The vets just need traded before the lack of minutes tank value.

I honestly haven't disliked a player this much since Russell Westbrook, but at least you could never question RW's motor or effort. Poole OTOH...get him out of here. I don't think he barely breaks a sweat during games.

Him mentoring Coulabally is a joke..it should be the other way around.

Westbrook at least came to compete every night while in DC, and worked his tail off despite not being able to shoot. His play the second half of his lone season in DC was the only reason Beal came close to sniffing the playoffs in his last 6 seasons.

Gafford had 5 blocks in the first quarter and 0 for the rest of the game. Maybe Scott Brooks was on to something only playing him 18 minutes a game.

Westbrook did compete every night. But he also in many ways was just a horrible player.
It was hardly rare for him to bring the ball upcourt, dribble around for 15-20 sec, never pass,
and then take a horrible shot, on a night he was maybe 4-18. He was a missed shot and TO machine.
No self awareness on the court. All that said, he is a 1st ballot HoFer.

I watched the first 2.5 quarters before I gave up.

Deni and Kuzma were really good. When they were both on the floor together, the Wizards actually outscored Philly by 7 points. In the other minutes, the Wizards were outscored by 25. Deni is so good on defense, and his offensive improvement this year is very encouraging. He is going to be a big time value at that contract. Kuzma had a little trouble guarding Harris, but his midrange shot was falling and he seemed to be the only guy who could score against their defense.

Unfortunately, that's all the good news I could report. Everything else was awful. The Wizards had no answer for Embiid at all. It was absolutely embarrassing. We went to a pathetic zone defense in the 3rd quarter and Philly scored on seemingly every possession. Embiid had 29 points in the 3rd quarter on 10-10 shooting from the floor and 9-9 from the line with no turnovers. It was a video game on easy mode.

Our defense is a complete mess and at some point, Wes is going to have to take some of the blame. It's not just that Poole is getting burnt off the dribble and Gafford is getting overwhelmed in the paint. There are breakdowns everywhere except where Deni is involved.

Yeah, I don't think it is players not competing at this point but the rotation(s) and schema(s) with this set of personnel.

Then again, there might not be a defensive schema or rotation that would work with this set of players.

Frankly, maybe this was the idea to ensure the tank?
