Good idea. There aren't many contenders available with a need for depth and a large expiring contract. The only problem is that Miami doesn't have any 2RP's until 2031. They do have their 2028 1st available to trade.

They have a 2026 second from LA. Which o could take that and pick swaps maybe. The idea would be to leverage Lowery to a team with a bad contract and get more value.nate33 wrote:gambitx777 wrote:I would call Miami and see if they wanna trade Lowery and some seconds for some depth guys.

Re: Official Trade Thread Part XLV
I wonder if this front office could pull off a trade for Ivey come trade deadline time…
Perhaps send them Michigan native Kuzma (they need a starter PF, Kuz is on an attractive declining contract and fits their timeline better than ours) + Davis and we get Ivey + Fodder (say Harris, who is on an expiring contract).
https://x.com/mikeacurtis2/status/1720868141855596603?s=46&t=GWeuz7j_sc5cBYZzdD92Tw
This is if we think Ivey has potential to be an above average PG/SG starter in the league obviously…
I’d say we have nothing to lose at this stage..

Re: Official Trade Thread Part XLV
We could send them Tyus Jones, Poole, and Gill now for Ivey, taking back Harris and their choice of Wiseman or Bagley. Let Kispert, Davis, and Shamet compete for the 2 spot.
Unfortunately, Poole is making himself very unattractive at the moment.

He's an interesting target, but, generally speaking, I'm not inclined to give up much for a high pedigree guy who is playing so poorly that their team is willing to trade him. I think the risk/reward calculation is better if you just wait until guys like that hit free agency.
I'm also keeping an eye on Jalen Suggs. He is getting more minutes in Orlando, but he still can't shoot. And his skillset is very much redundant with Anthony Black and Markelle Fultz. He could be the odd man out. I'm also watching Dyson Daniels. New Orleans can't pay everybody.

We know Wiseman is not good, but he is tall. We would still lose and at the same time it would be bearable to watch at least. They might even take Muscala for him.

Yeah, if they're willing to just give him away for a value-neutral expiring contract of similar size, like Shamet, it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and give him a try, but I wouldn't give up anything of real value.
I have virtually no faith that he will pan out as a productive player. It's pretty clear at this point that he just doesn't have the basketball instincts (or perhaps the work ethic or attitude) to make it in this league. He's like Javale McGee - physically gifted, but just unable to pick up the mental nuances of the game. It took McGee a decade to develop the basketball IQ to become a serviceable role player who didn't kill his team when on the floor.
The most optimistic take is that Wiseman just never got the opportunity in Golden State because they were in a win-now stance and wouldn't let him learn on the job. And then he never got the opportunity in Detroit because they have 3 other young centers in the rotation who are better (Duran, Beef Stew, Bagley). And since all 3 are young and developing, they're not going to bench them in a gambit to help develop Wiseman.

Is it crazy to say that even a young Javale McGee has shown more than Wiseman?

No. Not crazy at all. But in defense of Wiseman he never really had the opportunity McGee had in 2010-11 and 2011-12. McGee was fortunate to be the only option at center on a team that wasn't worried about winning, so he had 2 years as a starter. He posted good counting stats but he had no clue on defense.
I bet Wiseman could probably do the same thing in the same situation (like our current situation). He averaged 19 points and 11 boards per 36 last year when he got on the floor, but with horrific on/off numbers.

Wiseman is TERRIBLE. Javale had some IQ issues and his identity on offense was always a mess...but he was always a decent defender and a great rim protector.
Wiseman is a poor mans Ayton. I would offer him a vet min deal in training camp next year... Thats it.

I would take a flyer on Wiseman, have nothing to lose and don't have to trade much to get him.
Muscala or Gallo trade. Def need a big body (Especially after last night 21 rebounds

Re: Official Trade Thread Part XLV
It's management malpractice to not have a viable backup center.
I would go after Wiseman. He just needs to hang around the basket and dunk, defend, and rebound. He goes astray on offense, thinking he has an outside game. Maybe he will some day, now but he hurts his team taking outside shots.
I know we're trying to not be too competitive, but its not fun rooting for your team and seeing them getting destroyed around the basket with poor rebounding and interior defense. Of course there's no perimeter defense either, but that's a different issue.

We need to browse back up center options for sure. I would give a serious look at kai Jones and I would give a serious look into the trade market for any good decent underrated big man under 25.

I'm always interested in players who are productive in their limited minutes but who back up the immmoveable objects that are going to start every night no matter what (all-stars etc). For Bigs my diamond-in-the-rough radar pinged on Luka Garza a while back. He's never going to displace KAT and Gobert, but steadily puts in offensive numbers when given opportunity. Not a defensive keystone, but still, smart player within his limitations. Productive, good effort. Here he is to kick off the G League season this past week:

And with Naz Reid also on their roster, poor Garza is NEVER going to see the floor.
He played 238 NBA minutes last year, presumably all garbage time. In those minutes, his per 36 numbers are 26.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists on a .652 TS%. Only 0.4 blocks and 0.3 steals though, and 6.4 fouls. He might be unplayable defensively.
