I’d argue the opposite, Randle DOESNT have a wide range of skills. He relies on his combination of speed and strength to brute force a lot of his buckets.

He has no right hand at all, he has no real post skills/footwork, doesn’t have a reliable jumper.

If he was more physically gifted he could get away with it, but he’s not tall enough or doesn’t have enough wingspan to solely rely on his athleticism. That’s why you get terrible performances so often and why he’s such a liability in the playoffs when teams actually have a defensive game plan.

Yes he has alot of flaws but you can’t just make all Nba and all star teams if you’re not skilled. That’s just ridiculous lol

I get you dont watch Knicks games but Randle has def improved. Sounds to me like you are describing Lakers Randle. Hes a bery good rebounder. He does have a good first step. Once in rhythm he also has a great post fadeaway. His mid range shot is pretty consistent. Its just his 3 point shot that’s very inconsistent. His problem is that he cracks under pressure. Its clear as day

He didn't say Randle wasn't skilled, he said he doesn't have a wide range of skills which is absolutely true.

I don't think he will shoot this bad the rest of the season but didn't we already know that Randle is a super low efficient black hole on offense?

Only those of us who haven't watched him in years. The fools who've followed his career know that Julius is a plus playmaker who scored efficiently last year.

This isn't Jaylen Brown we're talking about, Randle is on a bargain deal for another year after this one.

Barrett is cooking everyone so far this year. Looks like he's finally learned not to be terrible around the rim and his FT shooting seems to have leveled up. RJ has been really good at getting to the rim & FT line for a couple of years now, but he was one of the worst finishers in the NBA and a below average FT shooter. This season he's been scoring efficiently in the paint and shooting 85% from the line, which has skyrocketed his TS to almost 60% after 5 games.

If he keeps this up, he'll have a legit case for MIP.

that play where he walked up the floor in crunch time the other day after the Jalen Brunson shot was inexcusable. He should've been suspended by the team or something. Maybe an overreaction, but it was one of the worst basketball sequences I ever seen

Sometimes wonder if Randall is a victim of his role being too much for him to handle. He's essentially their top option, and should be a 3rd option. So far, it seems they've tried to make Brunson the top option and that's a change for him as well.

A lesser role will give him more energy for defense, and better efficiency.

Interesting, looks like he was fine right at the rim last couple years (and hasn't been better this year) but was terrible from 3-10ft:

https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/barrerj01/shooting/2023

Jumped up from 31% from there on pretty big volume to 55% this year (albeit very small sample). Would be a big difference if that stays that way.

Yeah, I should've said finishing "in the paint" instead of "around the rim" to be more precise because "in the paint" RJ is up to 56.2%, having gone 51.2% last season, and 45.8% the year before.

A similar pattern can be observed with his percentages within 8ft...61.0%, 52.6%, 48.3%...and within 5ft...61.3%, 57.6%, 52.3%.

Early days so the sample sizes are negligible still, but what's particularly encouraging...other than RJ just looking more comfortable & confident...is that Barrett has a pattern of starting slow and not getting going until the holidays.
