I don't find his stuff all that insightful.
He sure wrote a lot about Hawkins. But like you I wasn't impressed.
Among other things, he's comparing Hawkins -- a key part of an extremely deep title team -- to guys who were clear #1s in college. Of course his stats don't match up. Hurley also drew up plays to exploit his incredible catch-and-shoot skills. His handle could use tightening but the notion he's "weak" with the ball or incapable of creating is pretty stupid. At least be honest and say we can't really judge those skills at this point because Hawkins didn't really have to use them. He made a lot of strides in terms of handling and defending from a disappointing freshman season to a good sophomore one, and needless to say, he continued to improve as the season went on.
He's also discounting the fact that Hawkins is the best shooter in the draft by pointing out that a bunch of guys who couldn't shoot in college learned to shoot in the NBA. If it's so easy, he should have Andre Jackson as the 4th pick in the draft.
Not saying he needs to love the guy, but he's not even giving Hawk a first round grade.
