Early 00s David Robinson

How would you compare David Robinson 00' and 01' to today's players?

In terms of situation and impact - a veteran star who is one of the backbones of a contender, was he similar to Chris Paul 21'-22'?

In terms of level of play amongst big, how does he compare to Jokic/Embiid/Giannis/Gobert/Towns/Sabonis/Bam/etc.? Do you think of any other great big who's peak is comparable to those versions of Robinson?

Similar to current Gobert with a bit more offensive juice.

I really rate Chris Paul's career... (and Robinson's for context)

AScreaming...'s 2000 NPI RAPM has Robinson: 18th
PI (or RPI as it's called on the site) has him: 4th
GoogleSites (JE) 2001 has Robinson: 18th

I don't know about the best sources for modern impact season data are. And Paul's 2022 is still solid in absolute terms on the box side and his on-off (looking RS here) is stronger than the surrounding Phoenix seasons. I suppose it depends how one sees those Suns, I could see ways to getting really high on him I guess, given how well that team did.

I just don't think he's Robinsonian ... Robinson probably has a bit better box, and a good impact signal (which, granting a very limited sample, and the relevant caveats, looks incredibly impressive in the playoffs). He drops off after this but, besides the minutes, I think my impression would be he's still really good.

Early 00's D.Rob was a pale shadow of his former self, and only people who focus on advanced stats only think otherwise. The Spurs were I think 15-3 in games he missed in 03, and rather than their D getting worse after he left it got better. He was an incredible MVP player at his peak mind you.

2000 and 2001 Robinson was significantly better than 2003 Robinson.

I certainly think so. Advanced stats fan often argue there was minimal drop off in his later years, which seems pretty offbase.

Okay. So you think 2000 and 2001 Robinson was significantly better, but why are you bringing up 2003 Robinson?

Don't get me wrong; 00 & 01 D.Rob was a big drop off from his prime too, just not as much as 02 or 03.
