What is it with how we play in crunch time? it's like we play one way the whole game and then the last few minutes it's hero ball....this game broke my mind man

Here’s a question: if Fultz weren’t in to close the game, would Paolo have had the composure to create? Does taking charge of the offense settle him down, or was this just a night of being young and hot headed in a pressure situation?

Unfortunately that's about all coaches can do nowadays due to these entitled (for lack of better term) players.
True, but being a babysitter and being able to draw up a damn play aren't mutually exclusive.
Nothing coaching can do to get guys to hit open shots . Magic have no shooters

Turnovers, missed free throws, dumb fouls, fix that, and even with the lack of shooting, we win tonight and are a tough team to beat moving forward. End of story.

I would lean No.
Edit: depending on the match-up. Like if he was guarded by Ingles he could.

Well it's happened multiple times without Fultz so I just put it to inexperience and youth.

Not to dunk on Fultz, but he needed to plant his ass at the 3 point line during that last play. He just randomly moves to the elbow and sits there and gives Wagner zero room to go anywhere. Paolo's shot was open but got tipped so was less open than I thought.

If you keep Fultz in you have to run something with him. If not, there is no reason for him to be in the game for those last 2-3 possessions. It’s that simple. If Paolo is running it all himself you have to have something better lined up than iso charging into 2 guys like kicking it out to Franz or Suggs. It just reeks of hero ball and leaning on talent instead of drawing **** up.

i'm starting to think that he might be more comfortable being the initiator it seems just better that way for him...but specifically in this kind of situation? hit or miss he has to learn at some point...something has to change man

The play at 1:10 where Fultz pushes the ball up the court and forces a pass to Paolo and makes him take the charge, horrible. Magic up 1 at that point, needed to slow it and waste time. Just boneheaded.

Why is it that we have Isaac taking heavily contested shots in crunch time over literally any other option than Fultz?
Paolo isn’t reliable enough from 3 yet to just put the game on the line open or not.
And back to what can be found in a zillion other threads.. why is Paolo’s first option running into dudes trying to pick up fouls on the charge? No play is run. There’s no point guard running **** with him.

The Paolo charge play is the only time the Magic actually tried to run a "play" - or at least something that wasn't a straight iso against a switch mismatch.
Fultz rushed the ball up the court off a missed free throw and they tried a quick (20 on the shotclock) dribble hand off against a not set defense to get Paolo the ball on the move going downhill.
Johnson defended it perfectly and Paolo quite frankly was just too slow to react to Johnson being in proper position. He didn't have to blast into him with that much on the shot clock. He could have turned it into one of those midpost looks he scored on earlier in the quarter. He could have backed the ball out and reset to a different action.

Got to get a handle on the turnovers and free throws....lost us this game and honestly...it's losing us this season so far....games we should be winning but can't because we're shooting ourselves in the foot

I’m not going to blame Mosely but Jesus Christ man. Read the **** room.
No offense to you because I know everyone's frustrated after a loss, but I just hate stuff like this.
The first possession you referenced... Paolo gets an off ball screen and gets the switch on Capela.
Johnson (Isaac's man) and Trae (Suggs' man) both collapse down on Paolo at the elbow. He kicks left to Isaac instead of right to Suggs who bricks a wide open 3.
Are we blaming Mosley because the action they set up created two wide open shooters and Paolo just passed to the wrong one?
Next time down Fultz and Paolo run a quick dribble hand off and Paolo just plows right into Johnson for a charge with 20 seconds left on the shot clock. Johnson was in great position and Paolo could have easily turned it into a post up or even reset.
Next time down Franz isos on Capela after a switch and blows by him for a score.
Final possession they try the same Franz iso on Capela action
Like in the final 4 possessions they got: WIDE OPEN 3PT, CHARGE, LAYUP, WIDE OPEN 3PT.
Not sure what else y'all want? The action worked. The guys just missed.
Wasn’t going to say the quiet part out loud but… Fultz.

Exactly. My friend who is a giant NBA nerd (but not a Magic fan so was kinda taking it all in) was completely flabbergasted watching with me. He said, “Hold up, so the team is expecting Paolo ISO ball for the remaining 5 minutes nonstop even though 1) the Hawks are double teaming it because you have friggin Fultz and Isaac out there, 2) that’s not at all in the typical Magic offense, and 3) that isn’t a part of Paolo’s repertoire yet?” And I had to agree and simply watch the team slowly choke the game away as Mosely stared completely perplexed on how this could be happening.
So yes I’m totally concerned that a non magic fan was able to diagnose the issue in 2 seconds while Mosely will say something about reviewing the tape or “the shots just weren’t falling down the stretch” or something. This team has enough talent to be a borderline playoff team but I don’t know if they can be more than that if Mosley coaches this way.

Fultz would've gotten benched by several coaches for passing up that 3-pt shot.

He wasn’t the same since the tech in the opening quarter.

Rushing the ball up the court and giving it to Paolo doing a freight train impression isn’t necessarily “running a play”.
