Oakland Mayor Asks Owners To Reject A\'s Move

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Nov 10, 2023 1:13 pm

Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao sent a letter to 15 owners in Major League Baseball this week, outlining why they should reject Athletics owner John Fisher\'s attempt to move the team to Las Vegas.

The A\'s have spent the last 55 years in Oakland.

The owners\' annual meeting takes place next week in Arlington, Texas, and the A\'s relocation vote is expected to be held at some point during the three-day session.

Approval from three-quarters of the 30 owners is required to allow the move.

Does the next 'big one' wreck the stadium? I'd rather see the fans at a modern stadium.

Hmmm…new city that’s thriving with sports in recent years, or Oakland that’s allowed the Raiders and Warriors walk. Let’s think about this

Oakland has had years to make it right and build them a stadium. Ownership has not walked away and probably spent millions to stay in Oakland for approval on a new stadium. I’m confused what the mayors goal is here besides trying to save face. Taxpayers have voted objectively and do not care if Oakland Athletics stay because if they did they would have made sure of it within the last twenty years trying to upgrade their stadium. 55 years and they let them walk out the door. It’s their own fault and honestly this is the best thing that could happen for the team. They can finally be a team that spends with the money they’ll make with the Vegas stadium and fan base that will be coming. Guarantee they’ll have a top 10 average ticket sales once they are officially in Las Vegas. They were probably on the bottom 5-10 in Oakland. Going to be interesting seeing Billy Beane having actually money to spend on players instead selling off players like Matt Olsen before they lose them for nothing in free agency

Oakland's current mayor is a joke. The last one was a joke, but this one takes the prize. A child that ran on protest votes from Newsome, Schaaf people angry during the pandemic.
