Re: OT: Video Games/Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos
Having played WoW for over 15 years. I actually don't really recommend it. If you have literally nothing else to play, sure, but what made it so great was the community and discovery of things for the first time. Now it's largely a grind with people who have been playing for over a decade.

Wait... what is this classic+ you speak of?TroyD92 wrote:MikeIsGood wrote:Sounds like the Star Ocean 2 remake was a homerun. Cannot wait to play it. I think that + C:S2 + the next POE league will take me through the end of the year and into 2024.

Also cautiously optimistic about WoW classic+. Vanilla WoW was one of the best gaming periods of my life and hopeful Blizzard just lets us be happy.

Basically fresh classic server with a lot of stuff added from QOL to Azeroth content. New zones/raids/loot. A lot of people think season of discovery is basically a precursor/beta to a bigger change

Honestly one of my favorite features is an initial level cap of 25 which removes a lot of "the game doesn't start until 100 hours in" thing.

Yeah I just resubbed. Looking forward to playing it.

Fired up the Switch to play new Mario. It's fun. But Dave the Diver is so great.

That's cool they're doing early level caps.TroyD92 wrote:FrieAaron wrote:TroyD92 wrote:

I'd need a squad of my old buddies to be dedicated or to get paid at this point and I LOVE mmorpgs and played wow for years.

Apparently in some interviews they gave more details and the level brackets will fall at level 25, 40, 50 and 60. They don't know how long each phase will be yet and will wait to monitor player progression but somewhere between 1-2 months. Seems a pretty decent pace to me. It's definitely much easier to play classic with an already established group but BFD being a 10 man raid means you can probably get into pugs fairly easily.

These do sound pretty amazing, I hadn’t heard about it. But I just don’t know if I can bring myself to sub again. Every time I do I’m like “oh hell yea” and then 2 days later I’m thinking “what am I doing?”
My old guild with HS mates is clearing 25 man ICC right now and I can never do it because it takes so long. I just don’t have the time or patients anymore. Current classic sucks because any of the more important ones they check GS and I’m nowhere near high enough.

I think the main idea with the level caps is to make it easier to keep up for people who have lives now. I thought I heard somewhere main leveling will take about 20-30 hours and then mid/end game another 10-20.

While you're hereC:S2 is quite playable now after a couple patches. It's certainly not a "finished game," but I'm having a great time. If you were holding off because of performance concerns, I'd suggest there's no longer a need to for your hardware (since my 2070S is doing just fine).
It is like learning a new game, too. The simulations run so differently - and I assume much more accurately, naturally - compared to C:S that I'm needing to learn the balance of different zoning types, when to fulfill demand or leave it, how to balance what services apply to, how to balance my budget, etc. It's definitely more of a game now than a city painter - and I am liking that.
As an example, I built a rural community to help begin producing some goods I had been exporting, and hopefully start balancing my budget a bit better. But it's out of the zone of where my schools serve, so I started getting 'not enough educated labor' alerts even though I had plenty of school capacity. Don't think I ever encountered that in C:S.
One of the pitfalls right now is lack of assets. There's one asset for each type of school, and no mods, so tonight I'm going to be building a gigantic HS in my rural community lol. When I suppose isn't the most unrealistic thing - maybe one school centrally located to serve multiple rural communities. Just wish we had more options. Coming soon enough.
I did download C:S2, was wondering if you had any good quick start guides for the nuances of the 2nd game. I did the tutorial, which was far too basic, but there are some ever so slight differences that I wouldn't mind getting up to speed on.
Also, performance was not the best on the first play through, a lot of stuttering. Going to look up some optimization guides in a bit.

For guides, I've just been playing around for the most part - and ultimately turning that into new cities. I'm on my 3rd city now, just breaking 5k for the first time, because I just keep learning new stuff that I want to incorporate from the start. I also watch some YTers - OverchargedEgg is really great.
For performance, do this: https://www.pcgamer.com/cities-skylines-2-immediately-change-these-5-graphics-options-for-a-big-performance-boost/

Re: OT: Video Games/Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos
I get CoD heavily discounted as my buddy works at Activision. MW3 is hot garbage lol. It's basically the exact same game as 2 with maps from old mulitplayer and their charging $70. Was their most expensive game developed, done in 1.5 years, initially told Sledgehammer is was an expansion. CoD sucks.

Me. CK3 is not that bad. Well worth the money. I’d say basics take like 20 hours or so to get a real hang of. Tons of depth though

Right on. Are you playing with the DLCs? I'll probably just get it all to have the most up to date set up right out of the gate.TroyD92 wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:Any Crusader Kings 3 players around here? I've played a ton of Civ6 and have been playing Old World the past couple months. I really liked the family/dynasty aspect of OW so figured CK3 would be a hard leap into a higher level of that.
I also considered pivoting and checking out a historical city builder like Anno 1800.
Odd question but I assume I don't need the sound on for CK3? I like to listen to music when I play vs the actual game audio.

Highly recommend the DLCs and make sure to check for some of the QOL/content addition mods. Wouldn’t hurt to browse through as they can add a lot to the game, but that’s up to you. I played a ton of CK2 which was significantly harder to get into. They definitely made CK3 much more accessible.
I played Anno a bit (15-20 hours)? Was pretty fun. Have thought about going back to it, but city builders haven’t been too enticing to me lately.
Yeah no need for sound really. Off the top of my head there’s no voice acting really.
