Mehh, once you get down that totem pole the bowls are meaningless.

Better to be in a bowl than not.

More money, more exposure, more positive momentum for next year...

Yes. Big development opportunity for coaching time.

How the heck did UCF pull off that dominant performance? Late 3rd quarter I was still concerned.

Re: Official UCF Sports Thread: Football (4-5), vs. Oklahoma State on 11/11
Best part of the game was that Gus didn't take his foot off the throttle. The team kept pushing the offense. We were up 30 points and we're still throwing bombs rather than just trying to run out the clock.
Defense came to play. Forced a lot of good turnovers, came up with big stops.
This was the team we all hoped we could have. If JRP had been healthy maybe we have another 1-2 wins and are in pretty good shape heading down the stretch. As it is let's just get bowl eligible and have a good end to the season to build momentum for next year (will be tough with quite a few big names on offense likely heading for the draft or graduating).

definitely wasn't expecting that kind of game! I was a little nervous the way the 3rd quarter started with a field goal and turnover but when they got it back and went 92 yards for the score I figured they would be ok. Hopefully we get more of this kind of play the final games.
I saw something about that being the biggest blowout of a top 20 team by a losing team since the late 90s.

Based off the teams that have 6 wins and 7 wins. USF has 6 wins, MIAMI has 7 wins, Iowa State has 7 wins. I want USF or Miami an in state Florida opponent in the bowl game. If not IOWA STATE would be great, They are in the same conference as us and we didn't get to play them this season.

Unfortunately, that's not really how the bowl game system works. Conferences have tie-ins with certain bowl games, so unless two teams from the same conference make the NY6 or the playoffs, they won't face each other.

A lot of it comes down to which conferences have enough bowl-eligible teams, then things like overall record, location, etc all factor in to determine which teams the bowl wants. I believe once the conference championship games are done the bowls just start calling the teams they want and teams accept whichever matchup and location they also want.
Miami in the PopTarts Bowl (Orlando FL) is an outside possibility just because it'd make sense for location and regional interest. USF is a possibility, though it'd mean both teams probably traveling to something like Ft Worth. I've seen some speculation about the Gasparilla Bowl, but not sure the Big 12 is affiliated with them this year, i think they'd only get the Big 12 if we had more bowl eligible teams, but since we have exactly 9 I think that's not happening.

it was interesting yesterday afternoon. Originally the news was that it was going to be a rematch with Duke, but a few hours later it seemed to change to Georgia Tech. Not sure if the leaked pairing was just wrong or if they saw that the fan bases weren't thrilled with a rematch and decided to quickly pivot.

ACC had some drama with their selections. Knights fully sold out their allotted tickets for this game. Nice credit to the fan base for supporting even when 6-6.

Re: Official UCF Sports Thread: Football (6-6) and Going Bowling
Disappointing end to an up and down year. I'm not sure where I fall in the "Fire the DC" camp. I'm not usually one to only give a guy one season, especially when it's his first, I try and give allowances for a bad season and give a coach time to grow into his new role, but it's hard when we saw how poor the defense played for the majority of the season. I think Gus would be justified if he let Addison go, but I think he gives him at least one more season.
On the offensive side, I struggle with understanding how so often this team would come out (like in the bowl game) and look unstoppable, and then just disappear. I don't know if it's we're good at game planning and catching the other team off guard, but then when they adjust we become predictable and easy to contain or what.
I had pretty middling expectations going into this season. I thought 6-6 or 7-5 regular season was likely, and we went 6-6.
The good news? Javon and RJ have already said they're coming back, and I think Kobe Hudson is likely to return as well. So our primary offensive weapons will be back. I won't be thrilled if we don't land a transfer QB (hoping we can snag KJ Jefferson who we're supposedly chasing), but I won't be too angry either. I think Timmy showed flashes, the question is can be get the mental game stronger and be more poised. If he can he could be a good QB for us next season. I think after next year we hand the reigns over to one of the younger QBs and let them run the program for a few years (if they earn it and can perform of course).
We obviously just had a great recruiting class, but it'll be a season or two before most of them are ready to play meaningful minutes. Hopefully we land a few more big names in the portal to fill in some gaps. Right now next season looks to be another middling year, unless we snag a stud QB or some players take good jumps forward.
