Raptors 905 Thread

I just realized that the 905 started their season last night. I missed the game, obviously, but thought that we should probably have a dedicated thread to discuss the Raps G-League team.

Mods, feel free to sticky or delete as you see fit.

As for last night, the 905 lost their opener 123-120 to Long Island. From the boxscore it looks like 4 of the 905 starters had good games (Ron Harper Jr., Mo Gueye, Javon Freeman-Liberty, and Markquis Nowell) but not many others did.

Need some high upside younger guys on this roster. If not here, then where else? JFL is 24 already.

I just checked out some of the highlights. Nowell almost had a triple-double with 19 pts, 9 rbds, and 13 assists.

Nowell really is a fantastic passer. I'm not sure if his game will ever work in the NBA, but some of the reads he makes are really impressive. Just fun to watch as a fan of basketball.

Geez . But I would expect no less from the greatest player to ever wear a Raps uniform.

Any suggestions on who we should grab? Or are you going to wait 2 years and then tell everyone how it was such an obvious move to make once they succeed in the NBA?

That looks like FVV in every way imagineable.

Other than being shorter guards, I don't think their play styles are at all similar. VanVleet topped out at 5.5 apg at Wichita State. Nowell is much more of a pass-first guard coming into the league. You can tell on offence his primary goal is to drive into pockets to collapse the defence in order to find an open man, and he's already identified where doubles and hedges are coming from. That's a very different way of running offence than VanVleet plays.

Keep blaming the fo for everything. at this point i hope they all leave so you can see what the sh.itty alternatives are.

Our coach has a proven track record of player development but you know better?

Arguing my point suggests you'd prefer low upside players. Something to think about.

Y’all act like Siakam, OG, FVV, Boucher, etc. weren’t developed in the last 5-7 years and act like since there’s no huge examples in the past 18 months it means they’re washed up.

You got spoiled on the greatest development run maybe in NBA history, and now are upset over a span in which they aren’t even bad, they’ve just been average.

The whole reason these guys are in the g league is because they have limited upside.

Again - one name. Come Danger. Instead of bitching about all the talent we’re missing out on you should be able to name at least one name?

How many rotation players over the past 5 years should the raptors have developed via the 905?
