I still like the guy you spotted a while back: Neemias Queta. He seems like a much better defensive prospect. He is currently on a 2-way contract with Boston.

Garza is almost 25 years old. He's a long shot to ever be worth keeping long term. That said, he probably makes more sense than Muscala. At least there's some chance at future value.

He played 238 NBA minutes last year, presumably all garbage time. In those minutes, his per 36 numbers are 26.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists on a .652 TS%. Only 0.4 blocks and 0.3 steals though, and 6.4 fouls. He might be unplayable defensively.

So you're saying he fits right in with this team. :clown:

Agreed on Queta. He looked good in preseason with the Celts:

Doc... Queta looked good in college...and in his 1st preseason...and everywhere since. I CANNOT understand why this guy doesnt stick. He needs to be our backup 5 today.

I'm not sure why Yurtseven, Garza, Sims, Fernndo or Smith would be available.
Don't want Wiseman, Bagley or Samanic (him... maybe).

Most of those guys are available because they aren't getting playing time and the others have been on the trade block. Sims would be my main target!

Has the weird obsession with Tyus Jones finally died? Dude is a mediocre backup PG. zero reason to keep playing this guy over younger players. Posting a 50% TS.

Quick someone post his numbers when Ja Morant was out last year!

I don't mind giving guys a chance to see if they step up. He isn't.

I wouldn't call it a weird obsession. The dude was legitimately very good starting in place of Morant. He was regarded across the league as the best backup PG in the league and a guy who would probably fare well as a starter. I agree with you that he has been disappointing so far, but I disagree with this notion that it was somehow ridiculous to assume he could be an NBA starter.

An average starter? Fine. People were comparing him to Jalen Brunson when both were UFAs a couple of years ago. Ridiculous

Maybe it was Brunson at 18 million vs Tyus at the MLE or something like that.

I just want the narrative that he’s anything other than an average starter/solid backup PG to die. We should be giving Butler/Rollins/Davis more opportunities than a guy like Tyus.

I'd love to have Jericho Sims on our team!
H&ll, you could put Hartenstein on the list as well....

Yup, I'm packing any combination of the veterans for any of them two. (Even Tyus probably)

Did the Washington Wizards trade for Jordan Poole to try to rebuild his trade value to move him on in a future trade ... or to make him a cornerstone player of their post-Bradley Beal future?

My sense, from speaking to various league observers, is that more believe it is the former rather than the latter with Poole in Year 1 of a four-year, $123 million contract.

Poole gave a glimpse into how he sees it in a recent interview with my Yahoo! Sports colleague Jake Fischer.

"Obviously I wanted to be in a position to have my own team, and then if it did come, how would I go about that?" Poole told Fischer. "Luckily I’m able to do that so young after learning from some of the best. It’s cool. It’s a smooth transition. We’re building everything from scratch essentially. Building up a new foundation. Everything in Golden State was already established, so we kinda had to fit into the mold that they have there."

Do the Wizards see themselves as Poole’s team?

I think the Wizards are playing it by ear. If he came in here and tore things up and was electric maybe we keep him for an extended period. And if not we trade him to a contender.

I think Kuzma might be on the move this trade deadline. With the way he's playing we might be able to get multiple first round draft picks.

I seriously doubt it.

Of all the over-26 veterans on the squad, I think Kuzma is the only one they value for the long term. He is a positive locker room influence, and he is really our only halfway reliable scorer. Also, whatever he is worth now, he'll probably be worth even more in the future as that contract descends.

If we ever acquire an efficient, high-volume scorer, then it might make sense to move Kuzma. But for now, Kuzma really fits well here. There is nobody else who can absorb that usage.

Return to Washington Wizards
