This is a championship city. We only bleed rings here. Masai knows that and I'm confident he's tired of this mediocre bs that he once said he doesn't want to be stuck in. The next disgruntled young star player that wants out will be a Raptor 100% . We were in the main talks with Kawhi, KD, Lillard. That alone gives me faith with Masai. It's coming.

that's the only thing that matters.

they'll just match any offer and deal later if needed.

You realize that both of them are unrestricted free agents right? Matching means nothing. Why would you take the raps over a team that is a legitimate chip contender when the same money is on the table? OG is likely to not care about the extra year from bird rights as he's young enough to get another long term contract at 30, Siakam is probably more likely to stay here, which is exactly what we DONT want.

OG should be prioritized a million percent over Siakam, but our clueless FO is running up into FA with zero leverage.....again.

just match/exceed what ever $ is out there on the market. why? because no one can offer more $ and a bigger role. guys aren't taking less $ + a reduced role in their 20s to chip chase.

OG is being prioritized over Siakam. you can 100% bank on him being a Raptor next year.

OG would be a starter on a championship team, while making max money, what about that makes you think the Raptors have any advantage lol. Siakam would re-sign here because I think he knows what his value is elsewhere.

Don’t be surprised when he is still a Raptor next year. Or better yet bet me he won’t be here by putting your money where your mouth is.

The plan is to win. In Toronto.

Details are a little fuzzy beyond that.

I agree with the general idea of how you're building a team of Barnes at the 4 surrounded by shooting, and the idea of OG guarding a star on the other team and Barnes + 4 shooters seems like the recipe to build around our star power forward the way the Bucks did around Giannis and somewhat similar to how the Nuggets have built around Jokic and Murray (with a 3+D guys in KCP, a shooter in PorterJr and a cutter/defender who makes up for some of Jokic's defensive issues in Gordon).

This seems inconceivable right now but if took on some meh money (Hawks have some) or even bad money (Lonzo) we might be able to get 2 firsts for Siakam and then it seems a lot more plausible to figure out in the draft. Ideally you probably get another first for Trent.

This all might be easier to do next year if we lock guys like that up and we can move Siakam to a small market team that can't sign guys, like moving Siakam to the Kings at next year's deadline for Barnes, Lyles and 2 firsts with Huerter going to team X for a late pick or young talent coming back to Sacramento.

I think if I was in charge that would be my plan. If no great offers for Siakam, Trent or Poeltl come in this year, re-sign everyone to retain the assets then hope the trade market is much better with the good small market teams like Indiana, OKC, Sacramento scared to trade for guys who aren't locked up but also looking to get better as they settle into the 45 win but not contenders range they all. We maybe lose Dallas and Philly as bidders if they've moved picks and expiring contracts for talent already.

End of the day, if we're gonna contend a title in the next 5-6 years it probably involves either magically finding a star guard or 3+D center in the '25 or '26 drafts or even less likely means or trading Siakam/Trent/Poeltl for young guys with potential who might be gettable like Quickley or Kuminga, or taking a risk on someone like Donovan Mitchell if he asks out. Right now we just don't have enough talent. Rebuilding seems a safer bet to surround Barnes and OG with real talent around them in 3-4 years when Barnes is 25/26 and OG is 29/30, but it would have to happen pretty soon to get talent that is ready by then.

Most important part of this for me is the 3&D center. It will open up everything even if they're not a world beater. I love this mindset for our roster.

Our roster? Every single team in the NBA would give their left leg for a 3+D center, that's like saying Lebron would would open everything up for this team.

We had the opportunity to get Maxey (Perfect fit with Scottie) for Lowry in 2021 trade deadline, and Porzingis (3&D Center) for Trent in 2022 trade deadline. Masai and Bobby of course went for Precious and Thad lol.

No, we didn’t have the opportunity to get Maxey. And Porzingis is not a 3+D center. The guy is a pylon on the perimeter. With that said, that was a deal that was rumoured and in hindsight is a mistake despite Porzingis’ health and attitude concerns.

Masai and Bobby are letting the players earn their contract.

Three of our main players are playing for contracts this year. Their performance ‘should’ be driven by their financial gain.

I think that’s the plan - “Let them earn it”

A lot of these guys won't be able to perform well cause the spacing is so trash.... Maybe he can save money on these guys and it's all part of his master plan.. doubt it lol

While I agree that KP isn't exactly a 3+D player, I think it's been shown that our defence can absorb a less than stellar defender in the lineup, and the outside shooting at this point is needed way more. We lack any and all spacing, and unless we manage to be the best defence in the league, we will not win enough games to matter.

I think you and I are arguing two different points.

I'm not saying they are, or should prioritize re-signing Siakam, I fully agree that OG should absolutely take priority.

I'm saying that from the player perspective, it's different. Siakam's value has tanked, and he knows that his value to this team, is greater than other teams, so he would be more likely to re-sign if we matched an offer.

OG on the other hand, he is wildly coveted, and the Sixers, an actual legit threat to make it out of the east this year, can throw max money at him. From a players perspective, when you can get the same money but be on a WAY better team with a chance at a ring, it's not as simple as "the Raps matched, guess I'll stay".

sure, but with a reduced role on offence? under a coach that previously kept you as 4th/5th option? yeah i don't see it, but we'll see.

all things being equal you might have a point, but players want the touches on offence because it equates higher future earning potential. it's pretty rare for 26 year old players to ring chase.
