I would go after 6'10"Daniel Gafford as the backup center over the 6'8" Theis

Gafford should be starter here.
I prefer him too but Theis is a FA, Gafford worths at least a FRP. Big difference

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2023/24 Trade thread
I don't think Gafford has FRP value personally. Veteran 20 mpg centers that can't shoot typically just don't have that kind of value. I do like him and think he would fit really well here if we can somehow nab him though. He certainly adds some meanness and toughness to the team.
Fun fact, he and Lively are averaging the same numbers. Both 8 & 7 on 70%+ shooting.

Why are we not considering someone like Daniel Theis? I mean he must be better than Powell, right?
Everyone has a right to be stupid. Some just abuse the privilege.

Yes but Lively plays with Luka Doncic... Gafford with Kuzma and Poole ... Find the difference
Gafford is very solid, Washington will not trade him for scrubs or 2RPs for sure... And he is only 25yo.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2023/24 Trade thread
Here's a really fun fact that 41Dirk41 is gonna love. Gaffords best year of his career was 10 and 5. What's Powells best year? 10 and 5.
What about 2nd best year? Both 9 and 5. What about 3rd best year? Also 9 and 5.
Hmmmm interesting....

Yes funny game, mostly because you didn't notice the steals and blocks
Or advanced numbers... But you are good at read boxscore
I can only immagine Gafford plays 5 years with Luka Doncic
Btw Gafford is a decent big, nothing special but another level than Powell. By far.
Anyway it's an useless argument because the bigger problem of the Mavs in last 5/6 years was the rim protector and rebounding so who played big here in all of those years? Is it funny? I don't think so

Vandy and Paul Reed are big-ish
At this point, almost anything is better than Josh

Yes, and those should be the only calls we make this year. Unfortunately we are stuck with Josh this year though.. Lets just hope Nico can get rid of Richaun and/or Maxi's dead weight.

I think Vanderbilt is a little bit overrated, he really can't shoot and last PO he was a DNP guy.
Grant will cover that spot and he can makes 3s.
I hope some big ( Capela
I hope to see Holmes in some real game minutes too for understand if he can help or not.

Ive been impressed with Holmes' limited minutes so far this season and hope he gets more opportunities. Same with Seth.
I love Capela, but im not sure he makes a lot of sense here anymore. Lively is (deservingly so) cemented in as the starter and im not sure Capela would be too thrilled about coming off the bench. My dream target now is Zubac. Clippers are in a tailspin and need a capable guard. Zubac and Hyland for Hardy and Kleber works in the trade machine and seems like a win for both teams

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2023/24 Trade thread
I thought Zubac was the perfect center to go after this past off season and still do now. As good as Lively has been, we are in deep crap if we lose him for any amount of time.
Plus, Lively is still a rookie so we dont know how he'll handle a full 82 game season.
We simply cant afford to give up a season if Lively misses, or struggles badly 10 or so games.
I'd still go after Capela as well because we have our young Tyson and now we just need a Haywood.
A move for Capela would completely solidify our frontcourt and would make us a damn scary team in the West.
And also remember that huge mountain in Denver we have to deal with if we want any chance of a championship.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2023/24 Trade thread
I would like to see Lively coming from the bench in his first 2 years of career and Capela has 2 years left on his contract so it's perfect
Capela-Lively-Holmes is a very solid C rotation.
They remember me TC-Haywood-Mahinmi

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2023/24 Trade thread
Music to my ears, Green can still be traded, immediately
They’re all tradeable immediately, but subject to the poison pill provision until July 1, 2024.
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q91
The first is when a team extends a first round draft pick's rookie scale contract (see question number 58) and then trades the player between the date the extension is signed and the date it takes effect. When this happens, the player's trade value for the receiving team is the average of the salaries in the last year of the rookie scale contract and each year of the extension. The sending team uses the player's actual salary when calculating their total outgoing salary, and uses the current-year maximum salary in place of the (unknown) maximum salary for a future season, if necessary1.
