Why would you?

yeah you get a home inspector to check on the shape of the house but i don't know many people who hire a private investigator to dig into the seller's past.

Correct. Although, I dont think info about a scam artist living at a house with people coming for revenge would be on any report or on zillow, etc.

I mean, I guess its a bit different for houses worth over a million, so fair enough there I guess, but I'd imagine its rarely a scenario where people need to worry about something like this.

I don't need to know Bob, who worked at Lowes owned the house before me, so long as it was taken care of an such, I wouldn't think too much about it. Plus, I don't know how it is in Canada, but in the US aren't they legally required to tell you if someone died or something? So some of that stuff is already taken care of to a degree.

This is Toronto, every house is at least $1 million.
I think the real estate agents should be required to disclose that to each other and if he had a real estate agent that was halfway decent and requested information that was withheld then he would have a good case for negating the sale in court.

Often you ask why they are moving but I doubt the real estate agent would disclose that the seller is fearful for life and was kidnapped.

In fact, when the scam artist still lived there, he was actually kidnapped, beaten and tortured for three days (although he was abducted in downtown Toronto, not from the house), and eventually moved out of the house for his own safety.
