Memphis with the 0-4 start and they are without Ja for quite a bit this season. They made a mistake trading their super efficient low TO backup PG for Marcus Smart IMO. Smart has played really well for them to start too, and I don't think he'll keep shooting 40% from deep.

The good news is we own Memphis's second round pick this year so we'll hopefully have pick in the late 30s instead of the late 40s.

Random thought: between Wemby, Chet, and Ausar, is this maybe the best shot-blocking rookie class of all time?

we own the more favourable between memphis and washington (then MEM sends the less favourable to MIN). it was already looking like a good pick with WAS rebuilding but now it's looking like there's a decent chance it ends up being a top 35 pick.

also, unrelated but the grizzlies just signed bizmack bioymbo for $5M and he was exactly who i wanted the pistons to sign as our third center. my dream of wiseman getting replaced is shattered :(

Have we effectively killed whatever value Wiseman had before this season started? All these DNP-coaches decisions can’t be helping

Not sure putting him on film will do anything for his value either

Memphis won last night.

We’re officially dead last.

11 games in isn't just a few games to start the season either... before you know it'll be through the first quarter of the entire season and we'll likely have 4 to 5 wins at that point.

As much as I doubt it’ll get to this, but I legitimately hope he’s a free agent this offseason. I just want to see that sideshow
To answer your question, if he gets an extension I’m thinking about January 2025

The Rockets are 6-3.

That makes me sad. Our dumpster partners got out.

Houston got real NBA players instead of Joe Harris (and James Wiseman who was last season acquisition but still eat into our cap space this season), so their star player (Sengun) is shinning playing around competent guys (FVV Brooks and Jeff Green are nothing special) and a functional roster.

Even Jabari Smith is looking much improved compared to the bust he was last season.

I love both Bojan Bogdanovic and Monte Morris, so I still have hope that we will look good once their both getting 30+ minutes and we see less or no minutes from Killian and Bagley.

Having a functional roster does matter a lot. Weaver is incapable of doing that. I am glad that after several seasons some people are starting to see it.

Weaver is terrible at his job.

Yeah, it is fair to point out that our “real” NBA players mostly haven’t sniffed the court yet. The injuries we’ve suffered are non-trivial. You can throw Duren in there as a real NBA player at 20.

Still wanna see more than this though. I’d personally like to see Morris starting when he returns.

I have always loved Morris as a player. I think the things he bring in are super important to win games and I think he will be a long term veteran to our team and Bojan is our best player and will take a ton of pressure off of Cade this season, but this might be his last productive season, he is not getting any younger.

Some of the things you have been saying are true. Cade got to do better. He is in a terrible situation, but his body language and some of the TOs he is getting are unnaceptable.

And it's year 4 of the rebuild, we got give our super expensive former COY a functional roster to work with. We can't be a 15-20 wins team anymore. Orlando took the jump last season, OKC 1 year before, Houston this season. I bet SAS will do it next season, and we're still tanking and hoping for draft luck.

However, for the first time, this season, I could see how this thing can work. Cade/Duren are great together, and if we have a team playing top 5 defense (a motivated Cade is a good defender) and we are not commiting 20 TOs per game and have a couple of 2 way players around those 3, we're going to be good and we're going to play a brand of basketball that will make us all proud.

And I absolutely love the fact that Monty has benched Ivey because of his poor defense. I was super vocal about his defense being unnaceptable last season and it still is.

That's a lot of IFs and I have 0 confidence in Troy Weaver and a new GM would possibly mean a new restart, a different vision and several more years of pain for us fans.

Chet vs. Warriors

36 pts (14-22)
10 rebs
5 assists
2 stl
2 blk

I still worry about that frame and the potential for injury and/or feet issues, but he's looking like the clear front runner for ROY right now. Different roles and all that, but Chet looks like he wants to push OKC to that next level.

Depressing to see where OKC is and compare it to the Pistons.

OKC got value out of PG (SGA and a bunch of picks) and Westbrook, and then Chris Paul as well. They started from a much better position... That said, Chet is looking really legit and like he could mold himself into one of the better #2 guys in the league really soon so SGA + Chet duo combined with all their other picks, assets, young players put them in the best position younger team in the league IMO.

The sadder thing is once Charlotte gets Bridges back we're pretty much a bottom 4 team with Washington, Portland and San Antonio and all three of those teams essentially started their rebuild last year or this year and we've been at it a while. Of course Chicago is also likely to sell off and start the youth movement so that might end up putting us in a clear bottom 5.

Other tankers we were bottom feeding with the last few years like Orlando, Houston, etc have clearly made some real strides forward out of the cellar.

They were in that position to acquire PG + SGA from drafting well.

Worth noting that despite drafting the basketball savior, the Spurs are on a like 10 game losing streak. It’s hard to be young in this league.
