I'm not even sure why I'm happy, but maybe I just enjoy seeing Manfred squirm under the pressure. I'm definitely feeling some type of way about how much less important the regular season has become. And yes, I do realize the playoffs have always been a crapshoot, but getting there wasn't.

It was definitely a meh capper to a good rebound season for MLB. I generally don’t like **** on WS with smaller market and/or non blue blood teams b/c I’m a fan of one that is both. If it were Brewers vs Rangers likely is the same or worse ratings.

I do get the playoff thing though. The format does seem to favor lesser seeds. But I dont know the fix. I like having multiple wild cards and it keeps the season interesting for more teams. The byes seem to not matter but do you make the wild card more of a gauntlet? I think Bob Costas mid season threw out an idea of having Wild Card 5 vs 6 in a 1 game playoff. Winner plays Wild Card 4 in a best of 3. And then the 1 seed can pick playing Wild Card winner or 3rd Division winner. From there its best of 5 in Divisional Round and Best of 7 rest of the way. That wouldn’t alleviate a playing gap but only 1 team in each league would be playing straight through. And then all the division winners get a bye. I don’t know if that is perfect either. I dont ever see them having less teams in the playoffs.

In the end, if letting in 6 teams there is going to always be chance the best teams don’t make it through. So maybe no other idea would be better since they’re never going back to 2-4 teams making it. The problem ratings wise is everyone loves upsets/blue bloods losing until its non sexy Final and everyone is indifferent to the teams. Its like the NCAA tournament. Upsets are great early on until its an Ole Miss, Oregon, Northern Iowa, Purdue final four.

I'm not sure if theres a team in professional sports that I have less feelings about than the Rangers. I don't have any reasons to like or dislike them, they just kind of exist. But hell I've probably gone years at a time without even thinking about their existence.

Brewers should hire Greinke as the new manager :)

If you're looking to waste some time there's a whole reddit sub dedicated to Greinke quotes. He's a one of a kind.

Wow that's a lot of players White Sox got for a reliever with a 6.79 ERA. Can the Brewers make these kind of deals too?

From what I read the goal for them was to clear several 40 man spots and Bummer has some really good underlying numbers. Definitely seems like alot to give up though
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

The Cardinals either have themselves one last semi-fun ride with Goldschmidt or they are going to be breaking things down in July and selling off all 30somethings and rebuilding for the first time I can remember.

I was defensive of the Rockies in the Arenado deal even though it looked one-sided because the Rockies' small window looked closed and I wasn't sure if the Cardinals really had one open. Unless you're a mega-market, the only time you strike with a massive contract/deal like that is when you have a really good group of young players coming up. Now they're back in no-man's land since they dealt all of their good pitching prospects away 5-6 years ago.

Of course the Rockies were the Rockies and spent the money on an even dumber contract. Will be interesting if the Cards try to get out of Arenado this year if it goes south or he basically just declines into trash on their books over the next 3-4 years.

Kind of a shocking deal for a guy who hasn't thrown his first professional pitch.

Has there been any word on Woodruff signing anywhere? Feel like his name has all but disappeared in the last few weeks.

Hurry up and decide please Ohtani. I imagine that's what's holding things up right now since everything has seemingly been at a standstill.

I'm not going to pretend like I have any kind of immediate practical solution but baseball really needs to do something about its free agency. I get it's different because there's no salary cap which makes it tough, but football and basketball have turned their free agency periods into anticipated events where there is a ton of immediate activity to generate fan interest. With baseball it turns into a war of attrition. These guys could sign in 3 days, 3 weeks or in 3 months, and very quickly it gets hard to keep caring.
