Another option is to ship Lavine and picks for OG and fillers.

Now you're talking, but Masai isn't dumb enough to essentially trade OG for Lavine.

If we make a move for Lavine this year I’d also look to throw the rest of our assets at someone else, so that going into next year we can sign them above the cap rather than in space… would that make sense?

OG is likely to be a UFA by offseason. He got security with Lavine. The lenghty defensive wings he’s building there fits well with Lavine’s issue on defense. Maybe on that angle.

Honestly, I think Lavine is easy to find/replace.

Melton & a couple of seconds for Caruso.

Or

Melton, Morris, Korkmaz, House, Jr., 2026 OKC first, and 2nd for Derozan, Caruso, and Julian Phillips

Why for us: We get an old but still reliable expiring shot creator in Derozan and a really good bigger defensive minded PG in Caruso to play alongside Maxey. It's not ideal but better than taking on LaVine long term. Plus, it wouldn't significantly affect our normal rotation except that Melton's minutes would be going to Derozan and Caruso. Start Derozan and Caruso and move Batum to the bench.

Why for Chicago: since it looks like they're heading for a rebuild, they get assets plus additional cap room next season to assist them.

What if LaVines value was for like Tobias straight up? Would any of you do that?

I assume that would still allow us to still get another max guy if we wanted.

He makes 43M next year, so no, you wouldn't have room for another max, at least if you mean via free agency.

If that's the price... You might have to do it? You get a better talent and improve the team's shot profile while still having the ammo to make another move to round out the roster.

But that's also an on paper view of the team, and Tobias seems to be fully bought in on both ends and really important to the locker room, while there's question marks with Zach.

Then why on earth would you even think about paying him 45 million a year through '26-'27 and kill your cap space?

I don't understand where you are on this. You know what he is as a player, yet you keep pushing deals that could get him.

As much as this goes against everything I've posted for the last few years, I wouldn't move Tobias this season unless it was for a definite upgrade that either didn't affect our cap space next summer or was for a player who we would want to become part of the core for the next few seasons, neither of which Lavine fits. Not sure either of those scenarios exists in any kind of realistic deal.

If there was a move we could make now, my pick would be Spencer Dinwiddie. Tall guard that can handle and he's not afraid to take big shots when needed. He's good in the halfcourt on those iso possessions that seem to always come up in the playoffs and in close games. I don't know how or of any way Brooklyn would trade him to us, but he'd be a great fit here.

I think the Nets would gladly trade Spencer to the 76ers as long as we took back Ben Simmons. I love the idea of having Spencer on this team but I doubt the Nets want to do anything that would help a division rival get stronger. Even if they are crashing. Sad but true.

Can't imagine they have any fuzzy feelings towards Morey after Harden forced his way here.

I dont really value cap space. I dont see difference between a $1m per year guy from a $10m per year guy because of the surplus in talent. When it comes to cap, i dont look at the overall picture.

Im OK with a team having x amount of cap space as long as they can have an x amount of chance of being a contender. And I think you reach that threshold with OG.

Most times you need to overpay for final pieces are really guys like Tobi or OG.

And if you dont do any deals, that cap space is just gonna eaten away from cap holds and extensions.

My issue with OG trade is we could end up giving up a lot of picks (yes, the picks) then eventually losing him in FA. I’d be more willing to trade if we’re guaranteed an extension. Even for max extension.

Other than that, 40m for OG?
Go ahead, its not my money.

I get the cap space argument, but are you suggesting that Zack Lavine is a 'final piece'? Because if that's the move, then it is in fact what he will be. Which will mean second round exits for as long as Embiid is here.

My biggest fear is that Morey won’t pull the trigger on any trade that doesn’t involve a star player in return.

I can’t wait to see this team with Oubre, Batum and Covington all healthy and playing, but even then I think 1 more really solid role player at G would make a world of difference. Not going to be delusional to say that we’d be eastern conference favorites or anything by adding a Bogdanovic or Gary Trent Jr, but I do think this team is built different than the past 2 years. For sure more depth and overall well fitting role players and 1 more would really cement that. I just hope Morey isn’t too all or nothing with his plan like I felt like he was with Ben/Harden. Who knows what deals were really available for Ben, but the role player/depth + picks trade packages sure would have set the franchise in a better direction than the Harden deal did.

Ok, but would Toronto agree to that?

As for Zach Lavine in general, I like him as a player. I think he's the halfcourt player you need on a contending team. The problem with him is his toxic, poisonous contract. We were thrown a life raft with the Harden situation. Trading for Lavine would just put into purgatory hell again. Not because of him, but again his contract. If Chicago sells, and we look at rentals or short term moves, I'm looking at DeRozan way before I look in Lavines direction.
