Levine = more offense?
That’s not what puts us over the top as a contender.
A guy who is or can be another star two way player is.

We still have time to develop Ellis & Colby too. Maybe one of them works out long term.
Duarte and Huerter may not be ideal but not on real bad contracts.
See no problem just waiting awhile.

I think it may be best if we make a decision with Davion before the deadline ends too. That's for a return as the contract is cheap.

his preferred list is kind of silly if he doesn't have a no trade clause and he has that many years remaining. speaking of these big contracts, man did we avoid the beal thing.

Re: 2023-24 General Thread
Been watching a lot of college games and seeing Peja Stojakovic's son Andrej at Stanford is a mind F. I'm probably more old-school than most on here. Growing up watching Reggie Theus and then Mitch Richmond while we sucked. Then Peja and the boys came along and it was a blast. It was like last season but with legit championship aspirations for a good 4-5 years. Peja of course was my favorite. He was the catalyst for that run with his ability to shoot at his size. Anyways, his son looks uncannily like him. Moves the same, plays the same. He's maybe only 6'6" but he's for sure a lottery talent and I'm putting it out into the universe that we can draft him in the late teens/early twenties if he's still on the board. I'd rather run with him out there than Monk or Huerter who we can use to trade for an upgrade at the 3/4.

With the way Keegan's defense has evolved I think it's safe to say Keegan is a SF.

I've been following him for a few years. Very impressive. Hopefully the Kings don't get their own 1st this year, but I would love to draft this kid.FarBeyondDriven wrote:Been watching a lot of college games and seeing Peja Stojakovic's son Andrej at Stanford is a mind F. Don't look now, but the Sacramento Kings are #15 in defensive rating. Almost pushing into the top 10 in offense as well.
Let's see if they can finish off this road trip and be in a similar position.
Current Record: 7-4
Same Time Last Season: 5-6

Been saying this from the get go.
The position that needs to be filled at this point is a PF to ease the physical workload on Domas and give another size option there.
Keegan is a SF/wing.

Absolutely. I would want a guy who is slightly slanted toward a defensive player too.
My dream scenario would be Jabari Smith Jr. That aint happening though.
Other guys I like, outside of the stars are Kuminga and Isaac.
Before that though I would love to try and get Lyles into the starting line-up.
Fox/Monk
Huerter/Duarte
Keegan/Barnes
Lyles/Sasha
Sabonis/McGee

Which would be a list of forwards more or less realistic that would compliment the roster?
My starting list…
Tier 1:
Anunoby
Miles Bridges
Siakam?
Kuzma?
Tier 2:
Patrick Williams
PJ Washington
Saddiq Bey
Tier 3:
Jonathan Isaac
Poku
Royce O’Neale
Dorian Finney-Smith
Kyle Anderson
Larry Nance Jr

I think Kuzma. Bonehead wants to be here apparently, and was a known target of this FO. Wizards should be rebuilding for awhile.
He has chinks in the armor and the fact he turned down a structured role here for hero ball in Washington is a major red flag, but I don’t see the other choices more reasonable. OG will cost, money and assets, if Toronto doesn’t want to keep him which they probably do given his D this year

Re: 2023-24 General Thread
Being objective about the Kings assets I think tier 3 (and below) is their shopping range, but I don't see Brooklyn parting with either O'Neal or Finney-Smith. Slo mo is intriguing but the gap between him and Barnes isn't enough to give up the assets it will take to trade for him imo. Magic has invested too much time into JI to trade him now.

Absolutely. Kuzma doesn't interest me. Think he wouldn't be great for the culture here. Having said that I guess they need to test the culture to see if Brown, Fox and Domas can turn someone around.

Davion for him straight up works in the trade checker here.

Assume we add some draft incentive.
I recently proposed on our board…curious for your opinions.
Kings get Caruso and Patrick Williams
- AC’s well known as one of the best defenders in the league. It’s not sustainable, but he’s off to a really hot start shooting the ball. Less than $9.4MM this year, and less than $9.9MM next year, so on a nice value deal.
- Pat’s a bust for a #4 pick, has regressed and needs a change of scenery. It’s all mental with this kid. I think he’d snap back to a respectable 3&D player with a fresh start, and a real PG like Fox. Plus you get Domas’s passing and I think that would also help him. Shooting 40% career from 3, consistently for 2 full seasons, and that’s factoring in this season’s rough 25% start.
Bulls get Harrison Barnes, Colby Jones, plus 2 firsts, both top 4 protected.
- Not sure if actually true, but saw a comment somewhere on RealGM that Barnes looks like he’s falling off and it might be instant buyer’s remorse on his contract.
For context, this proposal largely assumes this is true. Interestingly, if Williams can somehow turn around his career and find himself, I think his peak could be similar to prime Barnes.
- Colby Jones - I see he has been playing well in G-League, and you guys are high on him. Prob the reason you may see this trade as too Bulls-centric, but I’m not convinced by G-League stats. We had the G-League MVP, and we cut him. I think every fanbase gets enamored with the hope of their young players, so I don’t see the same kind of value with Jones as you would. Of course there are plenty of guys who outplay their draft position, but in most cases end of the day, guys are 2nd rounders for a reason. I like him in this as a dart throw.
The picks, I see AC as easily worth one, and it seems crazy, but he may be worth two depending on where they fall of course (ie. - 2nd half of the first). You can’t predict position so far into the future, but I still feel ok asking for the 2nd first due to the Barnes assumption and taking that contract off your books. Williams would need to be resigned at some point if he works out, but his play isn’t commanding that much right now.
While part of me thinks you guys would normally want to wait for the Keegan + filler + 3 picks homerun…it’s an unusually challenging time for such a trade. I saw someone earlier in this thread post about how you can be outbid, and that’s true with OKC, Utah, SAS, and NY all flush with picks if a real star became available. So I wonder if it’s better to take advantage of this very good team you have right now, and try to make incremental improvements.
I think this is the kind of deal that would help, but is imperfect in that it won’t put you alongside the few favorites. However, I don’t think anything does that outside a stroke of huge luck. If your org resigned him on the cheap, and then figured out how to get Williams to start taking steps forward, that could be a pretty big plus.

If he keeps not reaching on D, has no mid range shots, and doesn't stand with the ball in his hands I'm fine with him.

I think Patrick Williams and Caruso are very interesting players for the Kings current roster. However, parting with 2 first round picks for two players of this level, along with a starting level player, would be a bit hard to diggest.
For two or three 1st + Barnes I would expect a Anunoby-level…

Thanks for the feedback. I do think they both fit well, though Pat isn’t the rebounder you’d hope given his physical traits.
As noted, I went with that assumption on Barnes, but seems like you still value him and aren’t seeing that drop off and disagree with that other poster.
I like this Kings squad, and hope they do well. I was and still am one of the very few people that saw the Hali/Domas trade as the ultra rare win-win for both teams.

I’ve said since this BS of players “forcing” trades to their “teams of choice” mid contact started that it was going to be a serious problem and the teams should have stood together and said “No”.
That is what Free Agency is about. That’s when you get to pick who you go play for. Then you live with your decision. Period.
