Right now PHI is probably the best offense in NBA. Big test for MIN defense on Wednesday. I also expect that Towns will defend Embiid, because otherwise Joel will shoot mid range shots over Gobert in every possession, just like Valanciunas did in last NOP game...

Turning Embiid into a jumpshooter is a pretty big win.

Nah, he is almost automatic from mid range.

What do you consider midrange? He's shooting 41% from 3-10 feet (which is his career average) and 46% from 10-16 (above his career average).

I'll take that over his 71% inside of 3 feet - not to mention his 11 FTAs and their accompanying foul trouble.

The only better shots for him to take for us are 3s.

From what I have seen he comfortably shoots from mid range when he is open, I guess 41-46% are makes from situations when he is tightly guarded. Anyway, what I meant I that you cant put Gobert on him, because just like Valanciunas did in last game Embiid would make all open mid range shot we give him.

I'll still risk him making those shots vs dunks, layups and FTAs.

There is a fallacy here. Ask the average NBA fan what is the easiest shot to make. They will say the Dunk Shot. To that I tell them OK go out and play and see how many dunks you can make? NBA players can mostly all dunk, but getting opportunity to dunk is quite difficult. The dunk shot is actually one of the hardest shots to make. Embiid is better at getting that opportunity than most, but he can't dunk all the time. It's easy to get mid range 10-16 foot shots and if you can hit them at a high percent it's a good play.

Except Embiid takes almost 1/3 more shots from 0-3 than he does from 10-16.

He also gets fouled a lot more when he's near the rim than he does from the mid range.

He still can't take all his shots within 3 feet of the rim. Players need to be 3 level scorers to be most effective. Embiid is certainly one of the most efficient scorers in the league.

Of course, but that’s not really the point.

My entire point was if you reduce Embiid to a mid-range shooter, it’s a huge win for your defense.

If you reduce him to NOTHING but mid-range shots yes.

No help from DET tonight. They couldn't score in the last min and loss to a DEN team without Murray and Jokic (ejected in first half). I am so glad we didn't draft Wiseman (10 mins and 0 points).

No help from SAS vs Clippers. Holmgren is overtaking Wemby for ROY.

GSW should break their 6 game losing streak tonight vs Rockets who are finally coming back down to earth.

I'm happy we got off to a hot start, I think a lot of these teams are about to get their crap together and go on runs. I could see the Clippers, Warriors, Grizzlies, Lakers taking off at some point in the near future.

Not the Grizzlies. They are without Ja, Adams, Clarke, Smart, Kennard, and Tillman. They can't even fill the team will G-leaguers :D. I think they will be so far behind that may as well play for picks.

And we either get MEM or DET’s second rounder next year!

I still wouldn't be shocked to see them make a crazy run when Ja gets back but yes, they may be to far gone even though we are just a few weeks into the season. I still say they have hope, it's a long season, but they are in a big hole. They will have to get really hot and someone will have to fall off. I don't think its outs of the question that we could hit a huge slump ourselves. I don't see us dropping like 8 games in a row but I can see some bad stretches, one of the reasons I am so happy we have this big cushion, I think we will need it.

GSW have no size at all. Sengun and Smith Jr. are killing them. I think small ball died when every big not name Gobert could now shoot the 3pt shoot.
