The Bucks are currently 4th in ORTG and 24th in DRTG. The offense is capable of being the best in the league, but they really need to figure out a way to be halfway decent defensively.

how we feeling if we maintain these standings?
4th or better ORTG
20th or worse DRTG
we can still win a Cship like that, yea?
might need FT% and AST to be closer to 15th.

Re: Bucks News, Trade Ideas, Transactions - Crowder Out 8 Weeks
Something that you will not find in any other team is that Bucks' Top 6 players in value and salaries are the 6 worse in 3P%. Giannis, Dame, Midds, Bobby, Brook, Pat are shooting the 3 from 26% to 34%. What's even more amazing is that you won't find any minimum vet (Payne, Crowder, Beasley) or rookie (MarJon, Green, AJJ) shooting below the 40% mark.
My guess is that once Dame/Giannis figure it out and everybody finds their spots things will only get better. Take also into account that most of the Top 6 guys are slow starters and holding themselves for the playoffs. That said I'm not worried at all about offence.
Shooting 3s better is the one thing that gets this team on top. The other is getting better defensively. Trading for a Caruso is something that could definitely help, but we don't have assets and matching salaries to make this work. MarJon and AJJ taking a leap sooner than later is maybe our best chance to fix stuff. Just do whatever it takes to make them positive playoff rotational pieces.
Lillard/Payne
Beasley/MarJon
Midds/AJJ
Giannis/Pat
Brook/Bobby
Crowder should be the 11th after 7 weeks. Green and Livingston are OK projects to eat some RS minutes. Thanasis and Robin are fun bench warmers. I think one from this group needs to be moved to avoid the 2nd tax apron. After his injury Jae looks like the odd man out IMO. Take whatever you can until the deadline, move him then for cash and promote TyTy to make numbers work.

This is why some of us want Caruso so bad. That move alone could get us to 15th or higher and the offense won't suffer much.

Just want to point out that the text chain with Pat and Giannis recruiting Lillard flies in the face of the notion that Giannis had no idea what was going on. Also puts to bed the farce that was he in the dark about Jrue heading out. Of course he knew. And of course he was pushing for it.

We've won 5 games in a row, so all our problems are permanently fixed and we never need to trade again.

I am not going to say that Giannis did not know about the Dame to Milwaukee trade before it happened, however this is not an accurate account for what has been released in the snippet from the Dame interview, full interview will be released today. The Pat - Giannis - Dame group chat happened before the Bucks won a championship, and very well before Jrue was a Buck. Unless you have information about a "text chain" that has not been reported that I can see.

Winning a championship with a DRTG 20th or worse is very rare.
Worst I could find:
- 2000-2001 Lakers were 21st during the regular season but first in the playoffs although they also benefited from not facing a single top five offense during that playoff run (mainly because Scott Williams was randomly suspended before game 7 in Philly and George Karl had Glenn take the final shot in game five instead of Ray)
- Nuggets last year at 16th.
- The outlier 94-95 Rockets (also the lowest net rating of any modern champion) were 12th but again they should be ignored because Hakeem missed a bunch of the regular season, they added Drexler at the deadline, and then they intentionally lost games at the end of the regular season to get more favorable matchups in the playoffs (which worked out brilliantly). Basically the team they were in the playoffs was the best version of themselves and much better than their 12th place DRTG and sub 3 net rating. The season before they were 2nd in DRTG with a full season of Hakeem and no intentional losses.
- The 17-18 Warriors were 11th. Cheat code Curry/KD on offense.
That’s the list as every other champion since 1981 has been top ten in DTRG.

I’ll take it a level further: what if you are a team that plays down to their competition, then you should want to get to the knockout stage to play better teams and avoid the teams like the Hornets that give you troubles…

If we lose to Boston tomorrow night the "what could we get for Giannis and all the other bums" talk will resume, as our season will be over.

Too much overthinking on the "we might have to play an extra game or two against a good team!" stuff. So what? Win those games and it goes towards the tiebreaker against those teams. But sure, we could tank the Washington game Friday in hopes of avoiding a good team in December.

Bud would 100% tank a knockout round game to avoid having to play 83 games. He already tanked the 82nd game almost every season.

It'll happen at some point this season but Dame will be on a month long heater, Giannis will have his conditioning and comfort playing off Dame, Khris won't be ramping up anymore and the other guys will know how to space and move off the ball. It will be the best offense the Bucks have played in my lifetime.

Virtually every playoff team "tanks" the last game of the season if it has no bearing on seeding. It would be dumb not to do so. Celtics last year sat Brown, Tatum, Smart, Horford. The champs sat Jokic and other starters. Sixers sat their guys, etc.

It didn't matter if a seed was on the line with Bud since he tanked and gave the 2 seed to the Celtics two seasons ago because he thought his team needed 8 days of rest before the playoffs instead of 6 (lingering sour grapes).

Good thing that didn’t turn out to be a big deal or anything with like a game 7 being in Boston or something like that.
