What Moves Should the Lakers Make?
What moves should the Lakers make to try and improve the roster?
Lebron is playing great and Denver would be tough for them again, but Denver could even get knocked out early. The west is super competitive this year and I can see many teams coming out the west depending on luck, health, and a few plays here and there may determine a series/champion
They need a 3 and d guard or wing to replace Prince. He has been a bust and at best is a bench guy now
They probably need a backup C to replace Hayes and maybe even Wood (started well and then tailed off)
They may need a defense minded guard if Vincent doesn't work
Assets:
2026 swap
2028 swap
2029 or 2030 1st/swap
(2027 1st is going to Utah and then 2024 or 2025 1st is going to NOLA)
2nds
JHS (2023 1st round pick)
Max Christie
Guys like Dlo, Rui, Vando, Vincent, Prince are mostly salary fillers
Probably shouldn't make a big trade like going for Lavine as long as they are playing well

Jevon Carter and/or Torrey Craig are good fits if Chicago blows it up. Would probably only cost Prince (rerouted for another 2nd) and a 2nd.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

For now, pass
Would require Dlo, Rui, and Prince/Vincent. Let alone other assets
Lavine is better than Dlo, but is he better than everyone in aggregate and potential assets (plus what those assets can bring)?
Probably not

Carter isn't a bad one
I think we should be looking higher for more impact guys
Caruso is the obvious one
I don't see him costing more than a protected 1st and something small such as a 2nd or two/Christie

Re: What Moves Should the Lakers Make?
LaVine works if you can get him without Reaves.
But honestly, this works:
DLo, Reddish, Vando, LeBron, Davis
Vincent, Reaves, Prince, Rui, Wood
Backup depth: Christie, Hayes

Thybulle and Brogdon...Bojan if he returns to a good level, I think we forget how good he was last year...

Dont think I want to go Dlo, Rui, Prince/Vincent and more assets for a guy that is not a good defender
Lavine and Reaves in the backcourt would get hunted I feel like

I dont think I want to give up Rui and Dlo to go to Brogdon and Thybulle
Brogdon is interesting, but injury issues are a real concern
Thybulle is an option, he used to be a non shooter like Vando, but if that shot is real, he is playable in the playoffs with real minutes
Would likely need to move off of Vando though to justify having him

My thing with Caruso is that he likely costs LAL two of their larger assets (1st, Christie, JHS) and is LAL willing for him to be their final all in move or potentially wait an extra season for an opportunity to make an all in move for a near All Star type? Upgrading around the margins seems like a better option this season.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

I dont think Caruso gets you a 2029 1st and JHS (the 17th overall pick)
I think he can get you that 2029 1st with some protections and 1-2 2nds or the 2029 1st with some protections and Christie
I don't see many stars being available that would help and fit. Mitchell is one, but idk if we have enough. Would have to be built around Reaves, our 2024 1st, 2029 1st, 2 swaps, JHS, and salary

This offseason LA also adds the ability to send out the 2031 pick too. ‘29, ‘31, 2 swaps, JHS, the rights to the ‘24 pick, Christie, and Reaves could all be on the table which, in theory, could get you a seat at the table for a good few of the potential stars.
In all honesty I think Caruso will be a hot commodity since he’s so cheap and has an extra year on his deal. Chicago should be asking for 29+JHS and I do think there’ll be teams out there offering similar offers or beating it.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Caruso is interesting but unproven in the playoffs. I think that hurts his value a bit.
I think JHS+swap or a lightly protected FRP is what he gets traded for.

And who are some targets in the summer with all thsoe assets?
I dont think Caruso gets a good 1st and basically another 1st
Not like he is a good shooter or a guard who can do a ton on offense besides cut, score a bit off of closeouts, and hit open 3s at a below avg volume
All nba level defender ofc, but he is still a role guy
I think Phi makes the most sense
Maxey, Caruso, Harris, Embiid
1 of Batum/Roco/Oubre?
And or go get Siakam, OG, another wing?

Re: What Moves Should the Lakers Make?
1. Wait and see how the team look once Vando and Gabe Vincent is back. D'Lo and Rui aren't trade eligible right now anyway and both has been pretty good.
2. Once Vando and Gabe are back and when guys are trade eligible, they can make moves accordingly. I dont think a panicky move to get Zach Lavine is the way to go, but if Gabe and Vando play well, perhaps you do consider putting Rui, D'Lo, picks, JHS, Wood etc. on the block.

Re: What Moves Should the Lakers Make?
After watching last night, I wonder if my Lakers fans here are still insisting Wood is great for them? Or if like every other fanbase who has experienced they get this is the experience? When you are getting benched for Jaxson Hayes and doing absolutely nothing against a team you have been big talking about how you are eager to show them what they are missing out on....
But yeah they better hope those players that come back can help because right now there are some really bad guys in the rotation out of necessity.
