Julius Randle

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Tue Oct 24, 2023 4:16 pm

I’ve always thought of him as slightly overrated, but he’s 28, plays a position of need for us, and he’s got 3 years at around $30M a year, which isn’t too bad.

We could give up Stewart who may/may not ever be a PF for us. Throw in Bogdonovich? What else to make this workable?

You probably need to include Ivey or better.

Maybe instead of including Ivey we could modify the protections on our pick that they have?

The knicks are looking to improve. They might consider moving randle to bring in a star, but they aren't going to be interested in anything we have to offer.

I was think along the lines that they might see Stewart as a cheap version of Randle that can play better D, and could use the extra cap space to get themselves another star.

I don't like Randle's game. He's a blackhole on offense and doesn't play defense. He would be a massive upgrade for us tho, but I would rather someone with a different skillset playing PF for us.

Randle was a 25/10 guy last season. He led the team in points, rebounds, minute player, and was second in assists. Stewart isn't even remotely a replacement for that. They aren't moving him for our junk.

Wouldn't want us commiting to Randle (just not a fan) and the value is off for NY anyways

Yeah to me this is directionally wrong for the Knicks, so how we’d feel about it is a moot point.

If Stew actually was a “cheaper version of Randle with better D” there’s no way we’d do a trade like that.

Well, I tried. Still need some wings/forwards that can shoot. We’ll probably have to wait until summer and make a trade or get a free agent

As delusional as it is. Randle is the trade bait for Embiid.

That's a NY pipe-dream.

Philly is already screwed with Harden. IF they are forced to trade Embiid then there is no more "keeping us competitive". At that point you are blowing it the **** up, in which case Randle just becomes a bad contract. No sense locking themselves into mediocrity unless the owners flat our refuse to go through another rebuild.

A package built around Chet and a million draft pick is waaaay better than anything NY can offer and I suspect a handful of other teams would also put together more compelling packages.

I'd happily give up Ivey for Randle, but I don't think that gets it done.

No interest in Randle. I can look past the crazy contest but the fit is awful. I’d rather find a stretch four to play next to Duren. Duren is a pure post player. Adding a guy like Randle who doesn’t have the range of a Stewart and not even half the defensive effort makes no sense. I won’t even start on the attitude issues.

Duren is by no means a pure post player, what games are you watching?

Right now he’s an elite garbage man and lob finisher with good vision, high IQ, and high motor. His role is slowly expanding, but he doesn’t get many post ups at all. That’s not our game or his.

In the future, given that his shot actually looks good, he could easily be a defensive anchor and high post hub. If you want to get super crazy optimistic, think “more athletic Marc Gasol”.

In any case, pure post player is never going to describe him.

No way. We're finally building good chemistry on and off the court. Everyone right now is making the right pass and it's leading to good shots and good defense.

That first night against Miami I felt like Cade took too many shots. I always prefer games like against the Bulls, where the scoring is pretty balanced and everyone is passing the ball and getting looks... no one takes 20+ shots.

There’s a huge misunderstanding. Duren is a low end Drummond right now. I’m saying for him to be a next level player, he has to be able to post up. If he can’t, he’s Deandre Jordan which is just an average backup big. I’m just saying that he needs to profile to that type of player. I agree that it probably doesn’t happen.
