We played as good as we can, at least offensively, but Giannis absolutely unstoppable. Teams may have to resort to hack a shaq type strategy on him.

They sacrificed defense for a top offense

They were 22nd in defensive rating coming into tonight. They need a point of attack defender like Delon Wright. Badly.

To be fair, the top 3 perimeter defenders we have (besides Giannis who will probably very rarely guard the best perimeter player) were all injured/didn’t really play tonight. But even they aren’t that great to begin with.

Even if we had someone like Wright, teams would just run him through screens until they get the switch they want and then attack. I think we just have to hope we can outscore everyone, which is possible with Giannis/Dame/Middleton.

I imagine Poole playing in a lineup without Deni would probably lead to even bigger (-) rating..

Yup. That's exactly what he did. He wedded Poole to Avdija in the hopes that Avdija's defense would compensate for Poole's lack thereof. He's sort of been doing that all season. Poole and Avdija come out of the starting lineup early and then come back in earlier to play with the second unit; only in prior games, it wasn't quite so synchronized. Frankly, it's a miracle that Deni has such a strong on/off differential (relative to the other starters) despite being saddled with Poole most of the time.

I've not really paid any attention to the Wizards, and the Bucks game was only the second time I turned in.

Has Unseld tried pairing Poole with a more defensive oriented lineup including Coulibaly and Deni at all?

Throwing Wright in there with that group probably might make sense as well.

Of course it probably doesn't matter how many defensive stop the Wizards get when they can't secure defensive rebounds.

Pools quasi turnover wild shots, aren't doing them any favors either.

They did put Bilal, Poole, and Deni together in the 4th for like 6 minutes. No one could guard Giannis though.

We will have more fans present if we win 40 games, but there will still be a huge contingent of opponent fans, particularly when we play the Knicks, Celtics or Lakers.
I doubt it's the wins. It's the team. Bilal is the guy who's gonna win the fans over. When he starts knocking down 3-6 3 pointers a game and starts letting his personality out..... Watch out.

Nah…it’s the wins. People will only come out but so much to see a great player or two. To draw good crowds consistently you have to win consistently.

Also, I don't see Coulibaly having a enough flair to his game to be a big time star attraction. Even if he pans out to be an All-NBA caliber of player, he will still have a rather quiet game with all substance and little flash. He will be a smooth operator more like a Scottie Pippen, Mikal Bridges, or Kawhi Leonard, rather than an explosive talent like Michael Jordan, Anthony Edwards or Dominique Wilkins.

I watched the game last night.

I actually thought Deni played really well. The poor guy had to take turns guarding Giannis and Lillard, and then when Middleton starting torching Poole and Shamet, they put Deni on him. All 3 of those guys fared much worse with Deni on them. Offensively, the ball didn't find Deni much, but on a night when Kuzma and Poole were hitting shots, that's okay. Deni has always been a guy who scores in the flow or on the break. I don't expect him to try and take over a game offensively. He actually did a nice job as point guard for the second unit, setting up a bunch of guys for good looks. I don't know how he ended up with just 2 assists. I do know he got robbed of a steal that ended up being credited to Bilal when Deni was the guy who knocked the ball out of Middleton's hands.

The second unit fared poorly because Portis and Middleton hit all their midrange fadeaways, and Gallinari was ineffective as a second defender to double Giannis (or to grab the defensive board).

Honestly, the primary reason we lost the game was the lack of defensive rebounding. They had 16 offensive rebounds to our 5. You can't beat a good team with numbers like that. One real problem with our team is that not only do our diminutive guards play lousy defense, but they're ineffective in gobbling up loose balls off the defensive glass. Poole averages just 2.9 boards per 36, and Tyus just 3.5. With bigger, more active guards, guys like Kuzma and Avdija could focus more on boxing out so that our guards can swoop in and grab the board (like Westbrook used to do). But since our guards don't do that, our forwards think more about going to the glass and grabbing the board themselves and less about boxing out. Against a guy like Giannis (or Lopez; or Randle and Robinson from the Knicks) that's not going to work. Those guys will go over the back of our smaller forwards. The issue is compounded by our emphasis on transition offense. Perhaps it's time to give up the strategy of leaking out on the break and focus more on securing the defensive glass.

Despite the score, I thought the defense looked about the best it had looked all season. The rotations and overall communication was much better. There were much fewer mistakes defending the pick-and-roll than in recent games. To some degree, it's just a pick-your-poison situation with the Bucks. We have nobody capable of guarding Giannis one-on-one, and if you bring help, they get good looks from 3-point range. They hit their 3's down the stretch, going 5 for 8 in the 4th quarter.

Giannis only missed 3 shots. And one of those he offensive rebounded back in for a bucket. It's also hard if not impossible to guard him when he launches himself in order to bait foul calls.
