Josh Giddey: "Why is the thread locked?"

While we make an active effort to empower open discussion on difficult and contentious topics, we have collectively made the decision to prohibit discussion on the General Board about the Josh Giddey situation, for the time being. Here are the broad points on why we have locked the thread.

1. The information on the situation is extremely disjointed, with very little established vetting.

2. With people under the age of eighteen potentially being involved, we are not comfortable keeping a thread open where information and pictures about these individuals is being posted (especially when the information is unverified). We are generally against violations of privacy for off-the-court situations, and while we have to make tough calls on a thread-by-thread basis (many examples of this), the sensitivity of the Josh Giddey situation reinforces our perspective.

3. Should there be a reasonable explanation for the situation, it would be a disservice to everyone posting here for us to allow the unsubstiated claims to be propagated.

4. Restating point two, we do not want to further enable people to post pictures, TikToks, and yearbook photos of high schoolers. While we understand that these posts could be deleted, given that the identities of the individuals involved are inherently the crux of the controversy, that seems unproductive.

5. While there are potential basketball implications, if we are keeping it real, none of the discussion is currently about that.

6. The prior thread has devolved into debating the sex appeal of teenagers, which is a better fit for Reddit.

All of this may change when more information is released, but until then, we are standing behind our decision. Should you want to discuss the Josh Giddey situation, there are other social media outlets to hold those discussions. Thank you!
