You guys do realize Suggs is the 3rd rated SG according to EPM (often regarded as the best macro stat)?
He is right behind SGA and Edwards

No. Obviously Paolo and Franz are 1-2. We only go as far as they take us this year and going forward. This might be controversial but I think JI, Fultz and Cole are better than Suggs.
However JI and Fultz can never stay healthy. Cole is best used off the bench like he is. So I guess he would be 3rd right now and he is playing the best he ever has right now. Now if we are talking importance to the team...he might be flirting with 2nd right now. Dude plays so damn hard and is the reason this week Amway was as loud as I've heard it since the old Orena. He is getting the crowd engaged again. Reminds me of a more talented bigger Darrell Armstrong. The energy and vibes he sets on the team are immaculate.

The hero Orlando deserves is out there somewhere, Dwight was not the one we needed. So we will hunt for him...

That’s impressive. He is playing at an All NBA first team defense, maybe even dare I say Defensive player of the year?

But he still isnt even in the poll for defensive player of the year on the GB, but players like Ausar or Wemby
Isaac i can understand because of the minutes (But he is probably still the best defender in the word in those minutes) but leaving out Suggs, despite the Magic being a top 2 defense & Suggs being a Top 5 defender by most metrics is just disrespect.

Not sure “controversial “ is the right word.
Could make a case for Cole and, if JI can up his minutes- the conversation could shift, but

If Suggs played 33 mpg, he'd be in the all-star conversation with Paolo and Franz. Mike Conley was an all-star one season with similar stats. He was a substitute for a player who was injured.

Giving it a listen. I recall that Sam had him as one of the top prospects he's ever scouted. Suggs the prospect was an absolute stud.thelead wrote:

It says a whole hell of a lot for Sam of all people to do a deep dive on Suggs. Seriously.. very cool

This shouldn't be controversial, but Suggs is a better defender than JI right now, when considering positions, while also playing twice as many minutes a game...so even if they were equals as defenders, Suggs is doubling the on court production.
JI has made some phenomenal blocks this year, and his rim protection is real, but this isn't the same JI as we saw in 2019 who looked like a perennial DPOY. Back then I would have said JI stood a good chance against any player on the court 1-5 defensively. He looks like he can guard 4s and 5s now, with some switch-ability. I am not complaining JI has been really good in his role, but Suggs has been even better so far.

Vecenie bought a bunch of stock in Suggs during the draft. I think he had him mocked #2.thelead wrote:

Re: Is Jalen Suggs our 3rd best player?
I was just coming in here to talk about this. He's been noticeably better as a finisher this year, and just looked it up on BBallRef.. he's at 72.5% from 0-3ft this season (up from ~60% from his first two years).
I think these improvements are sustainable too, for a few reasons
1 - we see the '3rd year jump' all the time. Thats usually when players start to show who they are/what path they're on
2 - its not just this year his 3pter has looked better, he finished strong last year too. In his last 50 games he's at 36% from 3 and 78% from the FT line
3 - he's getting better with shot selection/the offense if finding itself and developing a system with ball movement. This year 92% of his 3pt attempts are assisted.. up from 71% last year and 67% his rookie year. He's shooting 40%+ on catch & shoot 3s so this is huge for his efficiency change. He's also more than doubled his 'corner 3' rate from 13% of 3pt attempts to 29% of 3pt attempts from the corner
All in all, its resulted him from being a below average offensive player with a below average TS% (52.8%) to a positive player on offense this year with slightly above average efficiency for a SG with 56.8% TS (league average 56.6%).
Obviously his biggest impact is still on the defensive side where he's been our heart & soul, but going from below average on offense to a positive on offense has been huge for us playing winning ball lately.

Guess who comes in just below Suggs a couple slots?
Yep, everyone’s favorite second best player on the Magic: Goga.
