He's never going to be able to protect the rim, but the NBA is moving into a place where you need something on offense from your bigs whether it's spacing, scoring or passing. In his case he does all three, and he has the added bonus of being able to post up mismatches which is how you beat teams that always switch, you punish them for having the nerve to try and defend your big with some skinny 6'8" wing.

We have absolutely no chance of getting him too.

We should let Mitch post up mismatches.

2 problems with this, one he can't make freethrows so the smaller defender can foul him and secondly he has no post game or feel for playing that way.

The Knicks should be hiring Kareem to teach Mitch the Sky Hook and other post moves. He does have soft hands around the rim with a nice touch. But the FT shooting is still a problem. I can fix Mitch in one summer.

And he can handle the rock too!

The Knicks have it wrong IMO. They are focusing on getting that true superstar player. Even if someone like Embiid became available , Morey would ask for such a return that the Knicks would need many more years to put together a true contender. Same for many other rumored star players.

The Knicks have to identify one of the up and coming wing players and than make an overpay and pray it pans out. Like take SGA of 2-3 years ago. You identify such a player and offer then 4-5 FRPs + a young prospect and hope that player turns into a superstar type player.....the FO seems extremely risk averse and wants to get a secure trade for a legit superstar at a fair price.....it is not going to happen.

But I also think that the FO is content winning 45 games and getting ousted in the first round. After 2 decades of failure it seems that a mere playoff team is already ok and is going to secure your job indefinitely.

Unfortunately the two teams with the most 3 and D forwards are Brooklyn and Toronto---neither likely to deal with us.

Here is a question for you guys---hypothetically asking---if the price for both players would be the same--whom would you prefer:

Mikal Bridges or Donovan Mitchell?

I'd personally go with Bridges as he'd be a near perfect bit.....however there is the risk that his numbers are somewhat inflated right now. He is already down a little bit from last year.

Spacing for RJ and Brunson? That’s a solid idea. Also keep eye on PG or Kawhi.

Randle and Grimes for Zion or PG13

It’s only a matter of time until Zion and Spida become available for trade.

Anyone have an appetite for Jerami Grant?

Tweener Forward that can play both positions. His biggest weakness --rebounding-- is something we could account for easily with Mitch, Randle and RJ at the 2 spot. Would allow us to go big and small while always hiding his main weakness (rebounding). Has developed into a pretty good 3 point shooter at roughly 38-39% over the past 5-6 years. Would probably not cost a fortune...could be that in-between move where you get him while keeping many assets around and would still improve the team. He is also only 29 years old so his contract is not that bad imo. Seems like a deal for Grant is something that could realistically get done.

Brunson
RJ
Grant
Randle
Mitch

Brunson
Hart
RJ
Grant
Mitch or go small with Randle.... would allow for a lot of different looks.

Having someone like Grant with his length in the line-up would give me much more confidence against teams like Boston (Tatum/Brown) or Milwaukee (Middleton) in the playoffs.

Could actually set up a potential Spida trade beautifully...with Grant as the tweener 3/4 you have a lot of size and length to cover for a potential Brunson/Spida backcourt as well....just a thought

How exactly do we get Grant?
He's making 30 million.
We gave a bum like Hart a 4 year deal making more than Mitch - who wants that Contract?
Plus, Portlands gonna want pics.
We have to try for guys like Isaiah Stewart, Isaac, Patrick Williams.
We have to somehow get a player better than Brunson and then a defensive wing.

Mitch/iHart
Randle/OG
OG/RJ
Spida/Hart
Brunson/Spida

Cleveland gets Grimes, Donte, Frenchy and 3 unprotected picks(24,26,28) for Spida
Toronto get RJ for OG - but we get to keep IQ
---- or IQ and picks for OG and we keep RJ

I think the squad with RJ off the bench is a contender

Would you do this? Are we contenders?

Any trade will just buff the treadmill, it's all hopeless. Knicks should stand pat until all contracts expire and get to tanking.

I actually think getting Grant is much easier than getting an OG for example. Portland is clearly headed the rebuild route and Grant does not fit their timeline. They have Scoot, Ayton, Sharpe, Simons who are all 20-24 years old while Grant just turned 29. I'm positive they would consider cashing in some assets for Grant. In terms of trade: Something like Fournier + 2 FRPs + filler would work capwise...Grant makes 27million while Fournier makes 19mill. You only need a 3-4 million filler. Definitely possible. Or something like Fournier + Grimes + 1 FRP.

I like the idea because Grant would enable us to play so many different line-ups and throw so many different looks at opposing teams. Add to that that he has played both the 3 and 4 a lot in his career and he has played as a first, second, third and fourth option in different situations. He can create off the dribble but can also play off ball and is a good character guy. On top of that he likely wouldn't cose multiple assets while putting us in a much better position to compete with Boston, Miami, Milwaukee. Imagine a long defender like Grant on Tatum or Butler or Middleton instead of RJ. In the frontcourt you could go:

Grant
Randle
Mitch

or

RJ
Grant
Randle

or

RJ
Grant
Mitch

Posing many problems for opposing teams to adjust to.
