He stopped playing defence years ago and he is no longer good enough as a scorer to maake up for this.

Why does it need to be addressed? Because theres not much pg scoring? The evidence (11-5) tells us that it doesnt matter if we get no scoring from PG as long as the D is solid, which lines up with my logic too given we have two high usage wings who need to be touching the ball most possessions. We need to just keep doing what were doing.

I agree. Having two ball handling forwards enables us to trade some of the playmaking at the 1-2 positions for size. Not many teams could score with Black/Suggs in the halfcourt.

Paolo and Franz are the main reason we dominate Boston. Their two best players are wings with some size and our two best players are oversized wings, bigger than their two best and our guys are better playmakers/initiators. That size gives Tatum and Brown a lot of trouble, they have a hard time getting around them and shooting over them so they settle for contested jumpers. As good as those two are they are not particularly good at creating opportunities for their teammates compared to Paolo/Franz who can create. Then the finisher is that we have a vastly superior bench than they do, that was the case last year but it’s an ever larger gap now.

Edit: forgot that Brown’s handles are suspect so Suggs disrupts the heck out of him.

Great game to rewatch. They seem like they are all having fun out there.

Now another big test will be Sunday against the hornets... we are without question are a better team but the hornets have been playing better since bridges got back. That smells like a little trap game coming off the high of beating the nuggets and Celtics. Well see how they look tomorrow. Go magic

He's still a longshot to ever earn that swingman type role in our rotation, but man he really injected life into his resume there.

He looks quick on defense

Agreed. Team could easily fall back on their laurels. Paolo and Suggs have been talking about how they take it one game at a time and focus in, but they're young and this could be one of those situations where they slip. Good barometer to see how mature this young team is.

I will say, i've been shocked at their growth just in the first 16 games of the season. They don't win this game in the first couple of weeks, they were blowing leads left and right in the second half, let alone finding ways to claw back into a game, let alone claw back in and then get a solid lead and put them away in such a solid fashion.

That was easily their best second half performance of the season. I hope that's not an aberration and is a turning point into the team becoming even more solid throughout. Now they know they can beat anyone, they can come back on any good team, they can win in a tough situation. Big growing game for this young team.

It’s not about having a guy to take the ball out of Franz or Paolo hands. It’s just about having someone on the court who can produce to aid Franz and Paolo. Black has struggled on both ends the last few games, which is fine and understandable because he is young. But he was part of the reason for the poor start in the first qt (-6), hence why he was benched. The Magic had to play other guys to replace Black’s lack of production and get back into the game after being down 8. A similar thing happened in the Denver game.

So the idea of it being addressed does not mean to take the ball out the hands of Paolo or Franz’s, it is just about production. It could be addressed by simply having someone on the court who can play D and make shots once receiving the ball from Franz and Paolo.

At this point it doesn’t make a difference but I just wanted to answer your question

Paolo had a rough first few games and dude was ready to ship him out for a Kyle Anderson type because he did not want to tie up the salary cap!

Nevermind that he had one of the best rookie years ever…
