It's extremely rare when a trio of teammates score THAT many points in the same game. They scored 101 points together!
In case you didn't see it, here's the boxscore.
- Giannis: 31/9/3, 11/19 FG
- Lillard: 31/6/10, 11/18 FG
- Lopez: 39/6/1, 14/17 FG
- As a sidenote, Washington had 4 players scoring 20+ (Poole, Kuzma, Jones, Kispert), totaling 90 points
So I decided to do a little research and see where that fit in the NBA's history.
That was 5th highest scoring output ever by a trio of teammates, when everyone scored at least 30 (please note the criteria).
What were the 4 others?
1. 123 points - December 13, 1983: Detroit at Denver (boxscore)
- Isiah Thomas, 47 points (also 17 assists!)
- John Long, 41 points
- Kelly Tripucka, 37 points
- This was the infamous highest scoring game in NBA history (186 x 184)
- It went to 3 overtimes
- Kelly Tripucka was no slouch; he was an All-Star that year, averaging 21/4/3; averaged 26/5/4 the season before
- From Denver's side, Kiki Vandeweghe had a 51/9/8 game, along with Alex English with 47/12/7
2. 109 points - March 1, 2019: Chicago at Atlanta (boxscore)
- Zach LaVine, 47/9/9
- Otto Porter, 31/10
- Lauri Markkanen, 31/17
- Game went into 4 OTs
- For Atlanta, Trae Young had 49/8/16
3. 105 points - January 26, 1979: Washington at Kansas City (boxscore)
- Otis Birdsong, 39/5/10
- Phil Ford, 33/13, 14/18 FG
- Scott Wedman, 33 points, 14/17 FG (all Kansas City Chiefs players)
- Birdsong (2nd overall pick in the 1977 draft) was an All-Star that season (his 2nd year), with 22/4/3 averages; 4x All-Star for his career
- Ford (2nd overall pick in the 1978 draft) was the ROY and All-NBA 2nd team that season, averaging 16/2/9
- Wedman was an All-Star the following season; later on went to win 2 titles with the Bird-led Celtics as a bench player
- Washington went on to the NBA Finals that season, losing to Seattle (and they were NBA champions the season before!)
- Highest scoring output by a trio (at least 30 points by each player) if you don't count overtimes
4. 103 points - March 2, 1962: New York at Philadelphia (boxscore)
- This is the famous game where Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points
- Richie Guerin, 39/8/6
- Willie Nauls, 31/7/2
- Cleveland Buckner, 33/8 (all Knicks players)
- Both Guerin (29/6/7) and Nauls (25/12/3) were All-Stars that season
- Buckner, however, played only 2 seasons in the NBA (in his 2nd one, only 6 games) and had 6 ppg in his 1st season
All in all
* There have been 18 instances throughout NBA's history which fit this criteria (a trio of teammates each scoring 30+ points in the same game)
* Check this link to see a table with all the games and some trivia as well
* All stats only until the 2017/2018 season (apart for #2 on the list). I couldn't find a more up to date source. StatMuse weirdly doesn't answer this question. Most of the searches in the internet direct to "highest scoring average for a trio of teammates in a single season".
* If you have more up to date info, please post here. Thanks.
