I'm disappointed for Jalen, but...

It's a great opportunity for Saddiq and AJ Griffin to step up!!!

Could've been worse like 4-6 months. It's a good opportunity for MG to get some run but he's sidelined as well.

Yes, very pathetic.
Relying on a 21 year old just to play .500 basketball.

There's another aspect no one wants to admit but seems undeniable at this point.

Hawks never adequately replaced John Collins.

We went from having two adequate PFs on the roster in March -- to having 0 PFs in December.

And that's the larger issue; we have very little depth in the front court.

Like I said earlier making trades to only cut cost as a priotity leaves us where we are. Trading on court production for 'nothing' back leaves us where we are.
Hawks have nothing to improve the oncourt product with the financial flexibility they created in both the Huerter and JC trades - that is the bigger issue.

IDK

Every player on the team is under long term contract. (Except Saddiq)

And I do believe there is a trade market for Capela, Bogdanovic, Okongwu and DeJounte.
All guys we managed to get signed to modest, affordable extensions. Not to mention that Sacramento Draft pick which seems likely to convey next summer.

My concern is continued poor asset management: we've spent 6-8 draft picks to acquire DeJounte and DeAndre. Those two moves have not paid off particularly well.

We have signed Aaron Holiday, Frank Kaminsky and Wesley Matthews as Free agents since trading for Murray.
If you go 'all in' on an allstar, giving up unprotected picks, don't you want to continually add talent, not take away and then do nothing. How does that make sense.
(The Hunter trade was from tanking so I'll let that stand on it's own merit).

:dontknow:

How far down the rabbit hole do we want to go?

I don't believe that last season or this season has been disappointing because of signing those guys to be 3rd string vets on the bench.

If we had done a consolidation trade for real star at a position of need, I do believe Ressler would have gone for it.

We thought we were doing that with DJ. And that's on Landry and Nick.

No it wasn't because we signed bargain basement FAs, you're right. It was because the first order of business was to 'get out and stay out of the tax. Sign your drafted players then dump 'em. It's a vicious cycle.

Re-sign drafted players and dump em?????
Cam wanted to leave
Collins needed to leave.
Huerter is the only draftee we truly dumped for salary purposes. But we also we have two highly productive vets who play the same position.

1. We didn't extend Cam.
2. As soon as we extended Collins, he was on the trade block.
3. It's the timing of the Huerter trade that's problematic, Bogi was coming of major knee surgery, might have won more games to start that season particularly considering our 3pt struggles and Hunter also missing time early in that season. Just saying.
It's all revisionist at this point. I'm just watching to see what comes next. We again have financial flexibility, the $12 million MLE and a $25 million TPE.
More likely small moves around the margins - again.

He's probably going to play soon like the next game after Mia. His injury didn't prevent him from doing any cardio and it's just a matter of shaking off any rust.

No more Bey in the starting lineup will clean up alot stuff on both ends.

BEY?!?

With the number of blown layups and fumbled passes I've seen from DeAndre Hunter the last few weeks, I'll be surprised if he's still a prt of this team beyond the trade deadline.

Hunter looks done. Confidence absolutely shot. And Trae and Quin both look exasperated trying to keep a positive spin on it.

Bey is flawed. But he at least brings a scorers mentality every game, even when his jumper's off.

5 years in, I'm still trying to figure out what Hunter brings every night. (Besides that stupid deer in the headlights look in his eyes.)

It isn't like we are getting value for Hunter. If he is salary matching for a higher name (Siakam) then that is fine. Salary dumping him does nothing for us. Not like we are gonna have cap space.
