1A. JJ - his skillset is so tantalizing
1B. OO - I initially wanted to put him first, but I need him to 'explode'
2. AJ - his footwork, shooting and feel for the game at just 19
3. Bufkin
4. Gueye - I just have a feeling
5. TyTy
6. Garuba
7. Vit
8. Lundy
Update time:
1. JJ - we see it
2. OO - love the 3s but I need rebounds
3. AJ - he has been struggling a bit. His SL wasn't impressive and in 2 preseason games his 3 ball has eluded him some what. He is being defended really tight from 3.
4. Kobe - after a rough SL, looks much better in preseason.
5. MoG - still have a feeling, a very good one. Just need some added strength.
6. Lundy - OMG, he's a flame thrower. Wow.

Re: Rank the Hawks Young Prospects
JJ has looked greatly improved this Fall. With Griffin's struggles all off season, I'm thinking of changing my pick to JJ!!

AJ is struggling shooting but I was able to watch him closely during the game. He is still engaged and focused, particularly on defense. That's not easy for such a young player when they are struggling so much on offense for it to not affect the rest of their game. If it's his defense that's keeping him on the floor for now, I'll take it and hopefully his shot comes back sooner or later.
He has a very unorthodox stroke, I wonder if the staff has tweaked it? Korver has worked with several of the players.

Re: Rank the Hawks Young Prospects
Bleacher ReportEvery NBA Team's Biggest Takeaway From 2023 Preseason
Atlanta Hawks
The Jalen Johnson breakout is happening.
The 21-year-old plays as if he's angling for a sponsorship from the 2022 movie Everything Everywhere All at Once. He has the versatility to do a little (or sometimes a lot) of everything, and the athleticism and explosiveness to fly around everywhere.
In the past, he has sometimes played too frantic for his own good, but even if he downshifts from 1.5x speed to 1.25x, he can still stay a step ahead of the opposition. That's what he's doing this preseason, routinely jumping off the screen without jumping out of his lane.
His efficiency will regress (he could be a 51.7 percent field-goal shooter, although he definitely isn't a 60 percent three-point splasher), but the rest of his game can translate in an expanded rotation role.
His defensive versatility, grab-and-go rebounding, playmaking and open-court attacking could all be key elements for this team, so much so that he just might push for the starting spot vacated by John Collins this summer.

I wonder how M. Gueye will fit this season?
He has a regular contract, not a 2 way, and made the final 15 roster to open the season.
Hawks 2nd round steal!!

I see AJ make these moves in a game and I get so excited for his future!!!
Then I look at his box score numbers and get very underwhelmed...

Hawks fans drinking the Jalen Kool Aid pretty hard.
(True story, I once made the exact same statement regarding Cam Reddish. Needless to say, I'm now a bit more cautious when projecting what these kids can grow up to be.)

JJ is everything we wanted Cam to be and his head is in the right place. He is putting out too much to not believe

Re: Rank the Hawks Young Prospects
While I agree these two are integral to the Hawks future, giving Jalen Johnson a max contract is a bad idea based on his limited production.
It'd be the John Collins situation by the fans when he hits his first bump in the road:

I'm concerned about OO. So far he hasn't taken the next step in the early season, particularly rebounding.

Both OO and AJ Griffin have struggled in Quin Snyder's systems. I hope it's only a temporary speed bump, because we've seen how effective they can be in a simpler role.

Re: Rank the Hawks Young Prospects
AJ's decline and ineffectiveness under Quin is officially becoming a concern.
Criminal he is no longer on the fast track to even NBA relevancy.

Re: Rank the Hawks Young Prospects
Hawks just lost to Memphis in part because they have an actual Big 3 while Atlanta has Trae and a bunch of sidekicks.
Any of the prospects on our roster good enough to become a Desmond Bane or JJJ caliber player for us?
(I thought AJ was a Bane caliber scorer, but something weird is going in with that young man.)
