Jokic is the clear frontrunner at this stage, but it’s good to give credit where credit is due. Thank you.

both of us know the reason for that is the number of free throws he gets per game, and he makes them with high %
He still makes 49% of his shots from the field, and that for a center is BAD.
show me the last top center that shot similar % from the field...

Telling us you don’t watch him play without telling us you don’t watch him play. He shoots a lot from the top of the key.

is someone forcing him to take those lower quality shots?
The fact is his fg% from the field is lower then almost all other MVP candidates while being a center, and some of them are perimeter players. He is a great player obv but just not as efficient as some of the other players

last year his fg% was much better and still quite a bit worse then Jokic for example. He all know he won that MVP because Jokic already won 2 in a row, and Giannis had 2 also

Jokic slowed down a bit and might not win it if Jamal misses bunch of games, but at this point for me at least Giannis has a better season then Embiid, you can make a case for some others too.

This must be bizzaro world. Embiid averaging the most assists in his career and Jokic averaging the most points of his career in the regular season.

It’s not about forcing him to take low quality shots, it’s about him having many offensive weapons in his arsenal, effectively drawing defenders outside of the paint and opening up lanes for other players. He is not a one-trick pony that stays in the paint like some other centers, which makes him a dangerous scorer as you know he is capable of scoring from anywhere.

Pretty huge game for Embiid. He’s been racking up with assists lately.

Basically the whole season. Career high, and averaging 6.6 for the year.

So it’s career high in assists for Embiid and career high in points for Jokic?

Impressive (and yes he is bloody fantastic), but it sounds like one of those espn stats where they choose a random number (235) to essentially eliminate other players who might have done much better with assists and points but but just missed out by a whisker from qualifying for the other one. That said, he is a generational player and worthy of praise. Who would have thought he’d be this good when he was drafted during a commercial break.

It would be nice seeing Jokic having a 30 point triple double season. Something unheard of for a center and would be great for the narrative when discussing the top 15 players of all time. Embiid is looking good for his third consecutive scoring champion title, a rare feat also. A long way from MJ’s 7 straight though. lol

With all the at-times toxic back-and-forth stuff going on in this thread, what we are witnessing are two hall-of-famers doing their thing night after night with consistency. Let’s just enjoy it.

Most 30 point triple doubles, centers, NBA history:

Jokic has done this playing 34 MPG, career, and half as many games as Chamberlain, (46 MPG, career)...with Wilt the only player remotely in his universe on this list.

Jokic is thee greatest offensive player in NBA history.

Let’s not diss the great Wilt. Blocks were not officially recorded till 1973-74. When he first played the Knicks, for example, newspapers recorded a game of 43/28 (and 17 blocks). How many points/rebounds/blocks triple doubles he would have had is anybody’s guess. Wilt was a workhorse on both ends, even having a 50/26 season in 1961/62 (not including blocks). But based on official stats, Jokic is in rarified company.

I think Wilt is the greatest player of all time. Take everything out with how his career went. On a player to player basis I think he’s the greatest player ever.

The thing that affects his narrative is the lack of championships, but that Boston team was unstoppable and were hall of fame quality across the board.
His PPG declined considerably from 1966-67 onwards but he became a better distributor of the ball when roles on the team became less specific: 24/24/9 (not including blocks) in 1967-68

Really? I think it’s damn close, edging with Jokic for now but only just. We will continue to mention lots of other names over the coming months when a KD, Halliburton, Tatum etc has a hot streak, but realistically it’s Embiid v Jokic (and maybe Giannis the only other viable option I can see competing with them).

Embiid is now the frontrunner leading the mvp race after last night. Sixers look very focused this year no distraction w/ no Harden ego and distraction they're on a mission.
