Re: Done Got Right: The LaMelo Ball Thread (#2)
He apparently still has hardware in that ankle, so I've got to imagine any injury to it will feel pretty damn painful at first. Just hoping that whatever it is, is not something that'll keep him out long or impact his play when he is back. He was on a historical tear and was knocking on Glen Rice's door for games scoring over 25 or something. We just haven't had this in this iteration of the team, that includes Kemba. He's also only 22. He takes a lot of hard falls, I was initially worried it was his knee.
Side note, but how many times do we have to watch him go up to the rim, take a ton of contact, hit the deck hard and have no call? He's still converting on many of them, but if it were Trae Young he would be at the line every time. What is the difference? Is he not flailing enough to sell? Or does the NBA have an agenda against him?

Re: Done Got Right: The LaMelo Ball Thread (#2)
guys, I wear a full-length leg brace every minute I'm awake, and have since I was an infant. first on both legs, and now on just the one. call it an orthotic device. I volunteer with a local college/hospital for the orthotics department and help the students build orthotic braces every year for almost 10 years now.
it's not at all surprising to me that LaMelo would find playing with a brace very uncomfortable or even painful. and no, it's not really a matter of building a better brace at that point.
yes, you can build a brace that will minimize the issue but you're still replacing physical function with a manufactured structure. the materials have to be impossibly strong and yet just the right amount of flexible at the same time. add to that the demands of playing point guard in the NBA, and we're talking an astronomical challenge for even the best orthotists in the world.
I still find mine uncomfortable and occasionally painful and the most I'm doing is walking a few blocks or standing for ten minutes. I get it. it might still be the right idea for him to wear some sort of brace going forward, I'm not his doctor or his orthotist. but I would expect a long term adjustment period at the very least. and probably he'll always resort to going without if at all possible, because of course he would.

it means, we have no **** idea. the tube machine that makes the loud banging noises will tell us tomorrow. until then we will just make up an injury tag.

I’m still going to be worried until there’s some kind of official word. Which may never come from this organization. So we may need to settle for something vague. But I mean, his ankle didn’t seem like it turned or anything. Most concerning thing I’ve heard is foot / lisfranc issue. So hopefully the MMRI reveals good news on anything like that.

He'll be questionable for the next month.

That's remarkable. It's as if they're not even acknowledging he got hurt. Like, can we at least know what the injury really is or are we just rolling with a "strain" from 12 mins after his injury occurred? We saw him have to be helped off the court. Tell us!

It wouldn't surprise me if the Hornets had a worse medical staff and equipment than the players at UNCC. I mean, they definitely have less funding. If this team had to actually bankroll the checks it gets to draw from the BRI pool for player salaries they'd be bankrupted by Ish Smiths contract alone

Re: Done Got Right: The LaMelo Ball Thread (#2)
Didn't someone last season play through an undiagnosed broken bone until they got hurt again?
Could've been Melo.
Our medical staff are either terrible or the team purposely isn't transparent. Maybe both.

He needs to call Steph Curry and ask him how did he fix his ankle issues early in his career.

A cautious approach would have been getting him some ankle braces that will work.

typical that it takes a 3rd party, non-local, source to give us a reliable update on melo.

I mean that's the state of NBA news today, local guys constantly get scooped.
