This is the tough part for me. It sounds great to say "when not hitting could be pulled" but what exactly does that mean. Hauser comes into a game and misses his first 3 attempts from deep and you bench him? Show me any shooter and I'll find a rough game or stretch of games for them. At some point with shooters, I think you've got to trust that it will even out. If you trust that they can shoot, you have to roll with that.

I believe in Pritchard and especially Hauser as shooters. So them not hitting is the last thing that would cause me to pull them. Even if they're ina slump, I trust that will even out. What would cause me to bench them would be if either of them is too much of a liability defensively.

The strengths and weaknesses of the bench are already becoming clearer.

Hauser may actually be able to contribute in the playoffs as well as the regular season as a floor spreading 3 point shooter who can score efficiently, and get by defending at the wing with his 6' 7" Frame and willingness to pass and move without the ball.

Pritchard is a concern defensively in the playoffs, as he will be exploited and attacked, but may sneak thru the regular season. He's more of a spot a shooter than a PG since he can't get to the rim and finish. More often than not he pulls up in the lane to kick it out or shoot a floater or jump shot. He could be moved with a another bench player should someone like Caruso become available. Still, Pritchard spreads the floor and can deliver from 3 on occasion. Even though Pritch is shooting 20% from 3 this season, his career average from 3 is 39.1%, which apparently is why he got 4 years for 30M tacked on after this season.

Luke Kornet looks nice against teams without strong backup Bigs, but can be of limited use in the playoffs because he is not physical (definately not a Banger type, which is probably what the Celtics need for their missing Backup C), and he has poor hands to grab contested rebounds or finish thru traffic.

Oshae Brisset's lack of a shot is a concern for someone playing the wing, no matter how much energy he brings.

Svi Mykhailiuk is a poor defender who is slow and basically a backup 3 point shooter. He might someday go 4-5 from 3 when it matters but that would be a day when a starter or Hauser or Pritchard is not available. He's deep bench unless he offers more than just a shot, and so far this season he is off to a cool start.

Lamar Stevens hasn't played much but hasn't looked bad in limited minutes. Jury is still out on him.

Dalano Banton is tall at 6' 7", but may not have the handle to face the full court presses that Playoff Teams will utilize against him (think Miami and Philadelphia, with switching) so he may be more of an SG than a PG as far as playoff utility goes. Still, the jury is out on him and it will probably be a while before we know what we've got.

Jordan Walsh isn't in the rotation yet, or even active most games, so we will have to wait until they take the wrapping paper off their new gift.

Read on Twitter

Bench shooting, first 8 games: 39.7% FG%, 30.8% 3FG%
Bench shooting, last 7 games: 55.3% FG%, 50.6% 3FG%

Horford and Pritchard finding their outside shot has been a huge boost for the bench.

I think this was the plan, rolling deep with 40% 3PT shooters off the bench.

Nice summary. I think PP will be fine as a 3 pt shooter but he needs to get better at playmaking and there’s no better way than throwing him into the fire as they have been doing. Jordan Walsh might be the perfect bench piece when he is ready but that may still be a year or two away.

We only have 1 need and that is another quality veteran player off the bench who produces regardless of position. A guy who could put up 10 points if called upon and be trusted to make the right plays and be solid defensively. Just someone that can play if 2-3 starters are on the bench with foul trouble, injury or just to rest. Kornet is fine in his role. Sam and PP are producing but they are inexperienced and inconsistent. I like the deep bench guys but none of them are going to fill the role I still think we need. I haven’t seen Gallo play this season but his salary fits in TPE so a veteran like him would work.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

The Blue part is Absolutely True.

And despite the flak he gets, Pritch is still clearly one of the Top ball handlers on the Celtics.

Last 10 games, the Celtics shot 53/115 from 3 (46.2%), best in the NBA during that span. Also the best FG% (52.4%) in last 10 games. This is with Joe digging deeper than usual, throwing guys like Banton, Queta, Svi, and Brissett in the mix due to absences from starting five.

ErS ThA GuUUd?

love to see it. Especially Joe getting the memo to start sprinkling in some other guys. And lord knows one way to improve bench FG% is to remove Oshae from it ;)

Also Slam Hauser BAM

Still think Alec Burks might get bought out. Would fit as a multi-position super sub kind of guy who can come in and fill different gaps and hit a three.

Same could be said to a certain extent in the front court of Gallo.

A healthy Gallo could definately be helpful. It would be fitting, too.

Houser is much more on D than just getting by, he has looked good to very good on D and is helping out on the boards ! he may be best all-around sniper in NBA

PP is playing GREAT, doing a bit of everything and will makeup for/overcome and deficiencies on D in the POs

I want Jordan Walsh worked into mix NOW, as I believe he is far superior to anyone else we have after top 8.

Add a vet big that can REBOUND AT VERY HIGH level !! Giving up defensive rebounds and subsequent 2nd chance points is our biggest weakNESS and may be achilles heel that prevents us from the title

We are 4th in the league in DRB%. Only 3 teams grab more of available defensive boards than we do. While we are only 13th in giving up offensive boards, that's due in large part to causing more misses than 26 other teams.

How are we 4th AND 13th is seemingly same stat ??

I would say trust your eyes here, not stats. Because missed FTs (which should come around) and not securing Defensive rebounds is easily our greatest weakness so far ! It's the only thing allowing opponents to stay in games, keeping door open for them to get hot at the end, or for us to get cold at end

It's not the same stat at all and I already explain why. We are 4th in the league in opponent EFG%. It's only natural that there are more rebounds (offensive and defensive) to go around for us and teams opposing us.

I haven't poured over the stats but when I watch us play, securing D rebounding and FT shooting is what allows opponents to hang around...

Let's look back and see.
From what we thought, to what's going on now.

At the Trade Deadline, we obviously Traded for some Guys, and then later finally brought up Queta.
But our Bench Rotation looks mostly the same. Xavier Tillman is a notable change.
