Re: NBA In-Season Tournament
If Bucks and Boston win we play them in Vegas. If we both lose I assume we also play the Celtics, where would that game be? I'm guessing in Boston since we have a home game against the Knicks and they are on the road at Indy.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

This complaint I don't understand. If the game wasn't part of the in-season tourney, it would have been a regular season game, right? Other than the championship game, I'm not sure what you're saying. Plenty of injuries happen in regular season games.
Or are you saying the courts themselves are an issue (i.e., slippery/dangerous)? I'm not aware of any league-wide issues.
Billy Donovan summed it up last night.
“This is what the league has done with the point differential. And I feel bad for them from this standpoint: God forbid in a game like that (someone gets hurt). When you’re up 30 and there’s 5 minutes to go in the game and you have all your main guys in there and potentially someone gets hurt over the In-Season Tournament because of points? Man. But I understand the league has made a big deal of it. Everybody is trying to take it serious.”

Some teams see it as a feather in their cap and then there's the Bulls, who could totally win it if they wanted to

Even the team that won hated it.

So what's your take on the in-season tournament, which you don't care about at all?

That it's dumb, meaningless, and a risk to player health. What else do you want to know?

I did find Tatum bitching about teams running up the score only for the C's to do just that against the Bulls....quite humorous. Also, a big fat lol at Orlando having the same record as Boston (3-1) and beating them head-to-head while still being eliminated. The point differential thing is somehow even stupider than I thought it would be. Congrats Silver.

Re: NBA In-Season Tournament
I think (personal opinion only) a Mid-Season bracket style tournament would be better. Just rank teams 1-30, 1st and 2nd seed get a bye as opposed to this current setup. would eliminate the running up the score disparity and would make the first half of the season games matter as it would impact seed.

I'm indifferent/undecided. I guess some credit should be given for the league at least trying to make the first three months interesting as opposed to glorified training camp.
"Wes, Hill, Ibaka, Allen, Nwora, Brook, Pat, Ingles, Khris are all slow-mo, injury prone ... a sandcastle waiting for playoff wave to get wrecked. A castle with no long-range archers... is destined to fall. That is all I have to say."-- FOTIS

Re: NBA In-Season Tournament
Teams mad about running up the score should, to quote a 12 year old in a call of duty lobby, 'get good'.
I think a team reward and player reward would have been the best route for awards. Maybe the 1st pick in the 2nd round, an auto playoff bid, and 500k/1M to each player would have been able to cover both fans and players, in terms of they would want.

I think a guaranteed playoff bid is both too much (in the event that a bad team somehow wins it, or maybe more realistically, a good team wins it and then suffers bad luck and is nowhere near a playoff caliber team by the time the playoffs roll around) and also not enough (why would a team like us or Boston care about a guaranteed playoff birth?).
I don't really think more incentive is necessary for the players, as they seem to be taking the tournament plenty seriously as is, but my kinda fun proposal is that the winner is NOT guaranteed a playoff birth, but if they do make the playoffs, they get to pick their first round matchup (and in doing so, slightly alter the playoff bracket as well).

Re: NBA In-Season Tournament
I don't understand any view that the tournament has been bad for the league. The only potential downside is I guess somebody getting hurt while trying to run up the score, to which I say, I don't care one iota. Players are just as likely to get hurt playing in any other game, unless your theory is that they'll just coast through the regular season and stay healthy that way, in which case the negatives of coasting far outweigh the positives IMO.
The tournament has helped increase TV ratings, give us better regular season intensity, and added a fun new element to a long, dreary season. Perhaps there are ways to tweak it to make it better, but I don't think there's any reasonable argument that the tournament has been anything but a success.

If only the Magic and Celtics had tied within their bracket, the Magic would have advanced due to head to head. But since the Nets made it a three way tie, it went to the next tie breaker, point differential.
Not that this matters to the tiebreaker but in the three way head to head... Magic beat the Celtics. Celtics beat the Nets. Nets beat the Magic. All were sizable wins.

Yeah, I think a team reward would be cool but an automatic playoff bid is for sure too much.

Re: NBA In-Season Tournament
I don't think there is anything fun or new about it, its just pointless and being shoved down our throats with the most awkward & cringe presentation possible. Fake enthusiasm and mindless consumerism is always an instant turn off for me. NBA should just threaten teams for load management all the time instead of just during this stupid tournament, that's the only innovation I see from all this.

Re: NBA In-Season Tournament
To me, it seems like the tournament is occurring too early and isn’t big enough.
I would have liked to see if start a bit later and bring in 16 teams. Crowning a champion in Dec 9, when teams are getting into the groove, seems off. I would rather have it be in the early Spring as a lead up to the playoffs.
I’m sure they picked doing it now with data-based decisions, but to me I’m excited at this point of the year (in non-Griff years) because the season is still new.

Re: NBA In-Season Tournament
I will say that I side with the players on the score differential being bad. I don't think it's a matter where "git gud" applies, either; if Team A is clearly going to lose, why should they keep their starters in just to keep Team B from having a larger score differential?
I also think it's fair for the players/teams to both bitch about it and also adhere to it this season. You don't have to agree with something in order to understand it's something inherent about the situation that you just have to deal with, and likewise that doesn't keep you from voicing your displeasure in hopes it changes next time around. And also to clearly acknowledge you're not trying to be a "bad sport."
I maintain that I truly do not care about the tournament - in either direction, either positive or negative. But presuming it's here to stay, that + the IMO awful courts are things I hope get changed for next season.

I don't have any rational reason but I went from hating the weird courts to actually liking them once my brain got over the initial shock. Some looked pretty cool.
