Quick question about the protections on the pick that's going to San Antonio:

If it doesn't convey this year (if the Raps end up with a top 6 pick) would the protections still carry over to the next season?

If so, how long does that last? For instance, sometimes in those cases I've seen it carry over for a couple of years, often with diminishing protection, but then eventually turning into two 2nds or something.

Anyone have the details on the protections for this pick?

Carries over till 2026 and if they still don't convey it, instead of a first round pick it turns into 2 second round picks.

If we lose to Indiana today then looking ahead to the next 4 games Chicago is the only given imo. Nets at their place will be tough. Cavs and Suns are the hard ones.

We could realistically be 7-12 or 8-11 if beat the nets. What a horrible position to be in, without a pick even.

Geez, we don't even have our 2nd round pick?!?! 5th year senior Tre Mitchell might be at least a SF version of Trey Lyles.

Shooting 40% from 3, Stocks >3 and 3.4 Ast (0.4 tos) in 5 games, but still.

If we end up keeping our pick, I think there is a possibility we look at UCLA's Aday Mara. Our assistant Ivo Simović helped to recruit him to UCLA and there is good reason he is lottery worthy.

Spanish-born
7'3 huge wingspan
Smooth/flashy post passing
Shotblocking presence
Post scoring
Showing good form on jumper

His high end is Chet Holmgren and low end is Ivica Zubac. He has been a sort of slow starter at UCLA and in an awkward fit with Adem Bona, but overall he looks like a modern NBA starting big. Good pedigree, great size and high IQ sell me on him being a lotto pick

Jonathan Givony, founder of DraftExpress, described Aday Mara after watching him live at the U17 World Cup as "exceptionally skilled for a player his age, he made outstanding passes from the low and mid post and from the perimeter. The high level of skill he shows can make him a serious NBA prospect as his career progresses."

I've always been a fan of finding prospects early before hype and what not takes over. Right now I got two guys who I think are going to skyrocket soon.

Rob Dillingham ( Maybe my favourite in the class)

Carlton Carrington looks like he could be good value, if he improves his offhand.

As a ucla fan I’ve been watching every game this season. He’s far from NBA ready. Love Aday but if he were to become a Raptor, he wouldn’t be able to contribute for at least a year or 2

The potential is definitely intriguing but he has a lot of work to do. He’s fine offensively, but defense is the issue. And he obviously needs to get stronger

I don’t like Chet as a comp. A better comp is Pau Gasol. If he reaches his potential, he can become that type of player. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up staying at UCLA for his sophomore season. The good news is that Mick Cronin will toughen him up and that should help his development

Mara is still 18, body frame looks even younger. Ideally, he stays for his sophomore year but won't happen probably.

Both those guys were 5 star recruits and projected one and done already so they don’t really fit that description

Guys who could fit that better are Buyuktuncel, Sebastian Mack, Dillon Mitchell and Kylan Boswell. Wouldn’t be surprised to see their stock rise

The big reason why he likely won’t stay for his sophomore year is that his former club Zaragoza is trying to make him pay his own buyout (and it’s become a bit of a legal battle). I think they want $800k so he might wanna get paid sooner to get off that fast

He’s definitely not ready physically yet but I think he can get there. His frame looks like it could put some weight on. His build isn’t quite like Chet and Wemby where it’s as difficult to put on weight.

I’ve seen him around Westwood a lot and from what I’ve been hearing through UCLA insiders, he’s still having a bit of a tough time adjusting to life and basketball in America, especially adjusting to the college game which is very different from Europe. I have no doubt that as he grows more comfortable we’ll see more from him by March

A guy who I think will skyrocket is Yves Missi from Baylor (originally from Cameroon)

Agreed, but both aren't ranked in the top 15 of most mocks. NBA draft.net doesn't even have them in the top 25 players. But I get what you mean.

Yeah fair. I think their stock dropped quite a bit. I remember a few months ago Dillingham was projected top 10 on most mocks and Flowers was a top 10 prospect in the 2024 HS class before reclassifying to 2023 and going overseas which probably contributed a bit to his drop in the 2024 mocks

Kylan Boswell, Dillingham, and Carlton Carrington are three players really catching my eye in the early going. Ke'lel Ware has also impressed me with his skillset. If he can have a more assertive mindset he could be a really good stretch-4/5 in the NBA.

3 spots away from the 2nd best piece we will have on our team. We can fluke out and win the lottery or tank bottom 6. Best options.

BK is the worse team ahead of us and they clearly are better. We should tank

You rather us lose the pick in 2025?

Or knowing our luck, we get investigated for tampering with Garrett Temple and then lose our 2025 pick.

nah, I rather tank in 2025 too. Save our cap space for 2025. Sign a star, trade for a star, Scottie, top 6 2024, top 6 2025
