Do i get it right? 3 swaps and 3 1st round picks.
If we wait till the offseason, we can add the 2024 1st round pick and 2031 1st round pick.
Can they trade the 2024 pick next summer eventhough they traded the 2025? Or will the 2024 pick no longer be classified as as “future” draft pick at that point and therefore tradeable?

Nevermind. Either way you can make a draft day trade.

I could be talked into it. Tobias is a woeful basketball player, and is less impactful towards a winning environment than Covington or Batum are. Still refusing to shoot 3s, not making plays for others, still getting stuffed at the rim en masse against set defenses, poor defensive numbers. His salary must be consolidated in a trade this year.
I'm also really enjoy the Maxey-emergence, but he has his clear limitations in the halfcourt. I like that Nurse is maximizing him as a young Curry proto, flying around screens and shooting a lot of 3s since nobody can keep up with him - but his isolation game hasn't taken that leap yet and his passing isn't hitting advanced floor general levels.
I've been trying to talk myself in Lavine, for the past couple of weeks. I also don't mind going for Demar/Caruso either. (i just don't know who realistically else we could pry with our assets if we were to make a move in-season besides these disgruntled bulls).
I would use Derozan as the alpha in the halfcourt since that is his speciality. He's top 5 this season in turns of high minutes players regarding AST:TOV (behind only Haliburton, Conley and Tyus). Difficult shot maker out of the halfcourt, very good connector, someone with high basketball IQ like Batum that makes the tidy play. Let's not talk about his defense.
And then Caruso is a defensive gamechanger. Shooting the ball at a really high level this year too. Would be fun to watch him, Cov, Melton, Bev, Oubre in this scenario wreck havoc on the perimeter against guards and forwards with Embiid towering behind sweeping everything up.
All in all, my headspace is conflicted. I think we have some fundamental issues that someone like OG doesn't address. Someone like Demar does. Demar and Caruso have very concentrated skillsets that would help us check off a few more boxes on this roster as opposed to the 40 million dollar vibe killer that's singlehandedly killing off Embiid's prime. [[inb4 he shoots 12/17 against the Wizards or Hornets next week and his advocates have the apology forms out]]
Well said. I agree we need a half-court Demar-like player PLUS an OG-like wing to handle defensive and cleanup duties. If you trade for Demar for cheap, you could use his bird rights to re-sign him to a team-friendly deal while also having room to sign OG. May be able to retain Oubre and/or Melton as well.

DDR and Caruso are guys I'd love to see as part of the core for the next few seasons, as both fit what we need like a glove. Problem is that they would fit most anywhere given their contracts, and I'd expect the markets to get silly as we approach the deadline.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills with this Derozan stuff. Even if you don’t want to acknowledge that he’s not the player he used to be there’s also the issue that he’s been consistently terrible in the playoffs throughout his career. He’s a floor raiser (well, maybe not anymore looking at the Bulls’ record) we need a ceiling raiser. Stay away.
At this point there’s probably like 10 perimeter scorers in the league I’d want to have the ball over Maxey, and none of them are available. I think you probably just focus on defense and shooting and bank on him continuing to get better.

Yeah you just bank on the exact same things we did in the last 5 years without results, what could go wrong...

I think it would be to have someone to stagger with Maxey, rather than take the ball out of his hands. He wouldn't have to play 38mpg if we had another play-maker like DD. It would also be a Tobias upgrade without breaking the bank. He's not a long-term fit, but a better option than Tobias and LeVine in the short-term imo.

I originally said I didn't care what the team did with Tobias as long as they didn't re-sign him for more than he's worth. Is it fair to just want him to be traded for a role player (unless needed for the third option trade), like for the back up PG spot.

That's great, but they still need someone else who can initiate the offense. Doesn't have to be Derozan but Maxey's going to die playing all these high use minutes and he's going to suffocate in the playoffs if he doesn't have someone else who can help shoulder the load.

I'm all in on OG if the price isn't outrageous. Brogdon is another realistically attainable target who'd raise our ceiling. Caruso could help here too.
Names like DeRozan, Lavine, and Pascal don't excite me and I'd warrant against trading assets for anyone who's not a proven winner.

Re: 76ers 2023-24 Season Thread Part 1
The about trading Tobias is OG and Jerami Grant are both worse in shot creation.
That’s why now, I’m open in trading Tobi for Siakam. Siakam is cheaper and it solves our “shot creation” and “size” problem.
He’s also a way better winning player than Lavine. With his length and mobility on defense while he passes, cuts and set screens better than Lavine.
We should also be in a much better position to compete if Embiid is absent physically and spiritually.
Floor spacing? Just big to big passing. Jokic does it with AG.
Hell.. after trading for Siakam, we might even have some assets left for Jerami Grant and Brogdon.

Fair point, but we're not going to find a perfect/flawless player via trade. Brogdon is healthy this year and gives us another capable ball handler who contributes on both ends. A Brogdon trade gives us elite guard depth and balanced scoring throughout our 1st and 2nd units.eyeatoma wrote:Brogdon is injured all the time. Why doesn’t there appear to be a market for Tobias as an expiring and expert shot creator? Hint: It’s because one of those two aren’t true.
Even if you do believe he’s a shot creator it’s in the same vein as PJ Tucker being a good three point shooter. Volume matters and that’s where Harris is fools gold. Guy scores 15 on a bad night and 21 on a good night. He’ll give you 19 on average with a full roster and also 19 when half the lineup is out. Useless player for $180 million.
